I can kinda see both sides of this one.
On one hand, civilians pulling up and shooting at other civilians "in defense" is a recipe for disaster. Someone innocent will inevitably get hurt, be it a bystander or the defender themselves, and it may not always be for the most righteous of causes (lest we forget what happened to Ahmaud Arbery...).
On the other hand, I have very little sympathy for criminals, especially ones that use violence as currency. A lot of them do that and don't realize that they are basically creating a game with life as the stakes, mainly because they believe they have the upper hand (usually because of a weapon). So when the tables turn on them, I'm usually fine with that. If you started and game and someone else ended it, that's on you.
But at the end of the day, I probably fall somewhere in the middle. Cops are definitely not always going to be around to handle situations where threats exist, but unilaterally leaving things up to the public will probably net as many innocent people being hurt as guilty.
