I've made the exact same comparison. I never understood how Hitler was able to do what he did until I started witnessing Trump take over a very large percentage of American Minds
the people that follow Trump are either safe from the consequences(million dollar talking heads, congresspeople, senators, rich folk), or they're too stupid to realize they're not in the protected class(poor white people).I've made the exact same comparison. Watching them Drive America into the ground is more than a little bit funny. You just got to stay strapped. I got mine at the house and if the shit pop off I'm ready, or at least I won't be going alonethe people that follow Trump are either safe from the consequences(million dollar talking heads, congresspeople, senators, rich folk), or they're too stupid to realize they're not in the protected class(poor white people).
Hitler is easier to understand when you realize that Germany was in the middle of an economic upswing.^^^
I've seen docs, read articles and books and honestly while I can give you the historically agreed upon bullet points?
I still don't GET IT. Or fully grasp it
And either these historians don't know?
Or deliberately adding fuzziness to the blueprint.
But Trump is getting damn close to showing us how it's done.
Maybe the simple answer is most people are extremely susceptible to dumb and evil?

Most people only care about themselves. What little empathy they have extends mainly to the people directly around them, and even when something cruel or insensitive might affect those people, they still only perceive that slight as an inconvenience without sourcing the cause.
This is why people can vote for people and policies that negatively affect minorities, then be surprised that minorities they know or even themselves are affected negatively.
This is why people can ignore all of the horrible things Trump says he has done, will do, or even wants to do, because they think their taxes were lower or "gas cost less" when he was in charge.
As elevated as our thinking and actions as a society can be in a crisis, humanity (specifically in America) is also weirdly wired to abandon reason for feeling. And part of this is an extended effort by the powers that be to numb people into that very corner. It's why so many "faith-based" initiatives seem to go against the very tenets that most faiths operate under. It's so obvious that it's almost sad how many people don't see it.
