I think he DID have a legit shot, but his ego and idiocy got to him. Plus, he pissed off orangeman more than the other candidates while up until very recently being afraid to actually say his name.
That, plus saying woke every 3rd word, going after Disney because they dared to disagree with him, the whole removing certain books from libraries, the AP black studies thing.... lets not even get started with abortion. All that stuff is great for him in Florida, but he's not winning independents in the rest of the country.
He's so committed to out trumping trump that he'll never be able to slide towards the middle like he'll need to IF he were to get the nomination...and if...if trump ends up having to drop out to work on his defense, he almost certainly won't tell his voters to head over to the DeSantis camp. ....and if trump stays in the race, at this point I don't see DeSantis winning enough primaries to get the nod. The GOP is owned by trump at the national level.

Man I don't see Desantis winning a damn thing. At a minimum he gotta flip MI WI and PA and the last time Trump was able to do it, two out of the three had Republican Governors and they controlled the state houses. All three are recently elected Democrats and recent midterms have shown a resistance to MAGA politics. Oh and good luck trying to flip back AZ and GA too.
I don't think he will make it out of the primaries, but that doesn't mean the election will be smooth or fair. A lot of MAGAs ran for positions of power to be able to oversee elections and some places have or are looking to pass laws to overturn or throw out votes from predominantly black districts. There is an organized, concerted effort already looking to disrupt 2024.
I've also heard that sororities are seeking to have their members sign up to be poll workers and watchers, but dems in general don't play the long game like the GOP does. Nikki Barnes said DeSantis already has boots on the ground in 5 states going door to door to gin up support while Trump is relying on his MAGA base to follow his social media directions. Also his contract that is currently keeping him off twitter expires sometime in June so twitter will be even more of a shit show.
Yeah that's happening in TX, NC and FL from what I've seen. States that Joe Biden don't even need to contest in to win re-eelection. Now they would have tried something like that in WI if Daniel Kelly would've won the open seat in that last Supreme Court special election though.
