Big three used to post hiring events and the line use to be three blocks long trying to get in,, now there begging m-f's to come work
For them the times sure have changed...starting pay is low people just not trying to break they necks trying to work for them at that
Low start off pay and they making record profits....

That and there is no security anymore! Record profits and you STILL get laid off.

Did you know? Created by James Vernor in his Detroit pharmacy in 1866, Vernor’s is the oldest continuously produced soda pop in the U.S

I worked at the former Vernor plant that was located on Woodward Avenue.

My job was to sit by the conveyor, and watch for cans that were not filled properly.

The machine would automatically knock them off the conveyor, and I would stab them
with a pole with a long, sharp metal point at the end.

Got laid off after 2 days.

Add this to your memory:

The Detroit Tigers were the next to last major league baseball team to integrate.

Might ease your pain a bit.
yeah but a lot of school field trips, family events and me working there for a short while are the memories I miss.

When I was a freshman in college, a few friends and I discovered the Stroh's Tour.

There was a waiting room, with several giant round tables, covered with red and white checkered cloth.

In the middle of each table was a big bowl of Pretzels.

At the end of the room was a bar. Any and all Stroh's products at the time were available.

As I recall, I was partial to Stroh's Dark, at the time.

You could drink as much as you wanted. FREE.

Then there was a tour, lasting about 45 minutes.

After that, you could do it all over again.

I hated to see that brewery shut down. One of the D's
best kept secrets at the time.

When my uncle was working for Stroh's he would bring my grandfather cases of beer and me cases of ice cream. We got so many perks from him working there, when he took a buy out right before they shut down I almost cried.

MAANNNNNNN Let me tell Ya...

I loved this joint!

Discovered it on the night of my bachelor party. My boys and I were hanging out partying at legends and when 2am hit we wanted MOAR!!!

So I called up this old head I work with and asked him what are the after hours spots jumping that night?

He said if you want dancing babes on 6 mile, if you want booty shaking TIMBO'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rest is history.

Also loved when they would move the party to the house in the background

The CHILLS going through me during that Lakers series. Where they kept trying to give that championship to Kobe! Every ticky-tack call. Every time they missed Kobe taking 18 steps to basket while holding the ball. Shaq in the paint for 30min. They did not want The Pistons to win that series and we grinded them down. Granted that style of basketball doesn't give a player longevity (see Pistons championship 89, 90)

The northwest side of Detroit wasn’t developed for real until the 1940s and 50s you have some areas such as Corktown,Woodbridge, Boston Edison Brush Park in Detroit that were developed as early 1850s
