Disney promised subscribers it was developing new TV series with Marvel Studios, including a show called The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all for the Disney+ streaming service. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, its release timeline for these projects has been shifted.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was due to hit Disney+ in August 2020, but according to various reports including one from Entertainment Weekly, Disney has announced that the show will be delayed following a lengthy production pause that went into effect in May. Disney currently hasn't provided the media with a new release timeline for its projects, let alone a new premiere date for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is supposed to be set right after Avengers: Endgame, with Steve Rogers’ Captain America passing his shield on to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. But Disney has only released one teaser for the show; when it also provided a look at two other Marvel Studios' TV series in the works for Disney+. It's unclear if those other shows will be delayed too, though we suspect that'll be the case.
The Mandalorian’s second season is still on track to release in October on Dissney+, or at least Disney hasn't said anything to the contrary yet. But Disney-owned Marvel Studios did push Black Widow's intended premiere date last May to 6 November 2020, and The Eternals also got delayed a few months to 12 February 2021. These disruptions are all due to the studio not being able to safely resume production or even shooting.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was supposed to kick off Marvel Studios’ big television universe on Disney Plus in August, but the show’s debut has officially been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The delay comes after the show was forced to pause production back in May because of the pandemic, The Verge has confirmed. Disney does not have a new premiere date for the show, but it’s hoping to share updates on it soon. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was set to pick up where Avengers: Endgame ended. Steve Rogers’ Captain America seems to have essentially retired after living a different life in an alternate timeline, and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) picks up the shield in his place.
Although we don’t have a full-length trailer for the show, Disney did debut a brief teaser in February during the Super Bowl. The trailer, which also gave us our first looks at Marvel Studios’ two other Disney Plus series, WandaVision and Loki, showed Sam practicing using the shield. It also teased Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) reuniting with Zemo. The character, played by Daniel Brühl, first appeared in Captain America: Civil War back in 2016.
While fans were anticipating delays, not having a new Marvel show on the horizon is a blow. Two other big Marvel Studios productions, Black Widow and The Eternals, have also had their theatrical releases delayed. Black Widow moved from May 1st to November 6th, while The Eternals shifted from November 6th to February 12th, 2021. It’s unclear if Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, which was moved from 2021 to December 2020, will also be impacted.

It was expected after filming on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier paused in March, but now it's official: the first live-action Marvel Studios TV series won't be making its planned August premiere on Disney+.
The streaming platform released its list of new programming coming next month and the show, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, wasn't on it. A source close to the situation confirms to EW that the premiere has indeed been delayed due to the global pandemic. If all goes well, a new premiere will be announced soon.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame and takes Sam Wilson (Mackie), the newly minted Captain America, and Bucky Barnes (Stan) on "a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience," an official logline reads. Daniel Brühl also returns to play Baron Zemo, a villain from Captain America: Civil War.

Earlier this year, during a Disney financial earnings call, Chairman Bob Iger revealed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would arrive on Disney+ in August, while WandaVision (starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany) was on track for a December 2020 premiere and Loki (starring Tom Hiddleston) would arrive in 2021.
Production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier took the cast and crew to shoot in Prague, but then the COVID-19 pandemic continued to spread. The show became just one of numerous Hollywood projects put on pause as the world collectively evaluated the situation. "We are being sent home," Stan wrote in an Instagram post on March 11. "Too soon. Prague, you’re gonna be in my thoughts for a long time."

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are getting back to work.
The two actors recently returned to the set of their upcoming Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and they each shared some behind-the-scenes photos to mark the occasion.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally scheduled to debut on Disney+ in August, making it the first of the streaming service's many planned live-action Marvel series. But that timing was pushed back after production shut down in Prague in March, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A new release date has yet to be announced. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon welcome its audience back with open arms, as WandaVision debuts on Disney+ starting this Friday. As the start of Marvel’s expansion of the MCU into Disney+ streaming ventures that will eventually tie into the overall picture being developed under Kevin Feige’s watchful eye, other projects of that same stripe are starting to come into the view of the public consciousness as well. With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier being the next on the list after WandaVision, folks are probably wondering how Anthony Mackie’s next Marvel project is going to play, and the man himself answered that very question with one word: “Revolutionary.”
I was able to catch up with the man the world knows as Sam Wilson during a recent conversation promoting the Netflix original Outside The Wire. No stranger to the world of streamers, especially with films like Point Blank under his belt, his latest Marvel gig differs in the sense that it’s not just any streaming series. The reasons for that distinction are what both made Anthony Mackie skeptical about the project, but ultimately convinced him that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the next step in Marvel’s future. And it all started with that one word:
Anthony Mackie’s remarks about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier pretty much confirm what Kevin Feige has been hyping up with the entire Disney+ experience that Marvel Studios is looking to develop with its future homegrown television slate. With projects that the company is seeking to “eventize” on a weekly basis, the six weeks that will see Mackie back in the hero game alongside co-star Sebastian Stan are sure to become the watercooler successor to the surrealist sitcom adventures of Wanda Maximoff and Vision.
In concept alone, it’s hard not to get excited about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Picking up after Avengers: Endgame saw Sam Wilson inherit Captain America’s shield, but not exactly taking on the superheroic mantle just yet, the world of Marvel Cinematic Universe espionage is about to fill in what exactly happens next. And with Chris Evans announced as eyeing a potential return to the role, this six-episode run might hold the clues to how that sort of occurrence could take place.
Much as audiences will see with the first two episodes of WandaVision this weekend, though the format may be new, the Marvel magic still can hit effectively as it did on the big screen. With expanded, episodic storytelling that brings the cinematic prowess of major motion pictures home on a weekly basis, Anthony Mackie is about to see Sam Wilson spread his wings and blaze even more trails for the MCU to follow in its long and undoubtedly fruitful future. So yeah, “revolutionary” seems to be quite the fitting word to prime everyone up for that experience.
