That same terrible crippled American economy as well

Both countries would suffer, but Canada would be devastated. And even if it doesn't work Trump can always send in the military or energize the growing MAGA movement north of the border.

When Trump calls Canada the 51st state it's not a joke. It's always been America's toady, but he intends to dominate it like never before.

Greenland leaders ready to talk with Trump after prez-elect expressed interest to make territory part of America

Greenland’s leader Múte Egede said he is prepared to enter into negotiations with President-elect Trump about the future of the mineral-rich arctic territory — but warned his people had no interest in becoming Americans.

At a press conference Friday in Denmark, which exercises nominal sovereignty over Greenland, Egede said he accepted that Greenland was “a place that the Americans see as part of their world” and that while he has not spoken with Trump, he was open to “discussions about what unites us.”

“We are ready to talk,” he said. “Cooperation is about dialogue. Cooperation means that you will work towards solutions.”

Egede was joined at the press conference by his Danish counterpart Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Greenland had been a colony of Denmark since the 18th century and became a self-governing Danish territory in 1953.

In 2009 the island won the right to secure independence if they ever voted to do so — something Egede supports.

“We have a desire for independence, a desire to be the master of our own house … This is something everyone should respect,” he said. “Greenland is for the Greenlandic people. We do not want to be Danish, we do not want to be American. We want to be Greenlandic.”

Greenland’s strategic importance has increased exponentially in recent years with ice-bound arctic waterways melting and world powers scrambling for new real estate between the United States and Russia.

The territory and its surrounding waters are rich in critical natural resources.

Under its current status, Denmark retains responsibility for the island’s defense.

In recent days the country sent private messages to Team Trump expressing their willingness to talk about how American security needs could be met without transferring formal sovereignty, Axios reported.

I’m reading the Greenland is rich in Rare Earth minerals and is in a strategic location for a possible trade route and military position due to the arctic melting. Denmark never developed Greenland and doesn’t appear to have much interest in doing so. Greenland would benefit and would rather leave Denmark and join us, rather than stay an outpost of Denmark. This is good for everybody.

I’m also reading that some of Canada’s provinces have been wanting to leave Canada. Some of them have valuable Natural Resources that could benefit us. If they want to leave, why not negotiate for them? Canada doesn’t want to give them up, but if they are choosing, why not negotiate? As usual, Trumps style of communication brings attention to the situation. Panama has value as a trade route. If we can get them without war, why not swoop?

Trump is making some good moves so far. When was the last time we annexed territory? If he can successfully annex two of 3 of Greenland, some of Canada, or Panama, and significantly reduce our debt rate without increasing taxes, he will be the best President in recent memory.

EU focused on Ukraine and fighting Russians

Only for us to possibly pull our support, leave NATO and seize some EU territory…

The EU really can’t do much at the moment, seems like They’re in a pickle

NATO encourages every participating country to contribute 2% each to its Defense. Denmark has never reached this 2%. We contribute 68% of NATO’s defense and a large part of their finances. NATO shouldn’t be telling us shit. Especially if Greenland wants to leave Denmark. Months ago Trumps said that he wants to contribute less to NATO. NATO better get right quick.

Man it’s just not Denmark, it’s a host of other nations…. This been like that ain’t wasn’t a problem until Trump figured he’d use that as leverage against Europe.

I think he actually wants it at 5%(im have to search that number))

He know some of those nations can’t afford that.

many folks wondered what the EU was doing,
It’s one thing to get close to Washington but you cut yourself completely off from Moscow.

Bruh I’m not pointing fingers at you becuase I don’t recall your stance on the situation…but it’s funny how Ukraine was needed for Washington and the world security. Many folks applaud the efforts and idea. Now the same thing is being said about Greenland and it’s a problem

Trump could order the take over instantly, the other folks ok it and us citizens would not know until it’s done…
There’s some troops stationed there already

Basically: I don't think it's a security thing for them, I think it's an economic thing.

I don't think anyone argues the economic benefits, or whether or not "we can take it if we wanted", but listening to that sounds crazy. I think the move would be really hypocritical as a nation.

In other words, if you don't contribute enough to joint defense then it's okay to have an ally steal your land.

By that reasoning, if I'm on the neighborhood watch and my neighbor isn't it's okay for me to take the deed to their house because they're not contributing to joint defense of the block.
