Scholz blocks transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine due to fear of Russia

The Wall Street Journal reported on September 27 that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has prevented the transfer of Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine due to his concerns about potential confrontation with Russia. While other members of Germany's ruling coalition have supported sending the missiles to Ukraine, Scholz, as per WSJ sources, stands as the sole obstacle to this decision within the coalition.

Scholz's apprehensions, as cited by the WSJ's sources, revolve around the idea that German personnel might need to operate the missiles on Ukrainian soil, a step he believes would necessitate a parliamentary vote. Additionally, Scholz is worried that the presence of German troops in Ukraine could escalate tensions and lead to a direct confrontation with Russia.

Thousands celebrate departure of French ambassador from Niger

Thousands of Nigerians gathered near France’s military base in Niamey to celebrate the departure of Paris’ ambassador earlier this week, about a month after the military junta ordered him to leave. But anti-French activists say the battle is not yet over.

"This victory is not, if you like, a total victory for this revolution, it's only the beginning. We call on the entire population of Niger to mobilise as one until the last French soldier leaves Niger, said demonstrators.

"We’re overjoyed. But just because the ambassador has gone doesn't mean that we're going to stay at home and say 'It's over, we've won'. No, we are going to continue the fight."

They are now waiting for France to withdraw its around 1,500 soldiers from Niger, which Paris says will take place before the end of the year.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on Volodymyr Zelensky not to trust Germany, because Germany always wanted to come to an agreement with Russia - Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

Morawiecki also called on Ukraine to be grateful for the fact that Poland has sheltered millions of Ukrainians. “We helped most of all at the moment when the Germans wanted to send 5,000 helmets to besieged Kiev,” the publication quotes the Polish Prime Minister as saying.

France announces that the withdrawal of its troops from Niger will begin this week. With this, the Gallic country begins a process of withdrawal in the region accentuated by the increased activity of insurgent groups as well as the cancellation of bilateral defense agreements between the two countries. We will see how the withdrawal of the 1500 French soldiers will affect the security of the country now that the ISSP has increased its activity and its area of operations is getting closer and closer to Niamey, while on the other hand the Tuareg begin to sympathize more and more with the Azawad movement (latest reports speak of the arrival of Nigerin Tuareg fighters in Mali)

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands opposed Ukraine's accession to the EU in 2030

According to Mark Rutte, "the question is not when the countries will be ready, but whether the countries are ready"

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that he categorically disagrees with the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union (EU) in 2030. This was reported by the Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation.

Earlier, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine, admitted that Ukraine could join the EU in 2030 if all the necessary conditions were met.

"I categorically disagree with this date," Rutte said at the beginning of the summit of the European Political Community in Granada. According to him, "the question is not when the countries will be ready, but whether the countries are ready."

"There are already 27 member states in the EU, and if new countries are added to them, then decision-making and other issues will become even more complicated," the Prime Minister of the Netherlands noted.

In addition, he believes that in order to join the EU, Ukraine and other candidates "must fulfill thousands of conditions," and they cannot make concessions.

Congressional crisis could jeopardize future support for Ukraine - Lord Darroch, former British Ambassador to the United States, commenting on UK outlet Sky News.

According to him, the race to replace Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives could "continue for quite some time."

“Then you will get real problems for Ukraine, because the Americans supply about 90% of the military equipment that comes to Ukraine,”
he said.

“I myself do not believe that Europe has the opportunity to make up for this. So, soon these reserves will begin to dry up,” the former ambassador added.

The EU “raped” Hungary and Poland, so they will not compromise on migration - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“And if you were legally raped, that is, forced to accept something that you do not like, how can you come to an agreement and compromise? This is impossible,” added the Hungarian Prime Minister.

I’m be honest, this might be a small front to gain faith among their citizens

Once elections are over they go back to the schedule programming
“Poles no longer want to see Ukrainians as hosts - CNN

The Poles are tired of helping Ukraine and the tyranny that Ukrainian refugees commit, writes CNN. Among the population of Poland, calls are increasingly heard to stop aid to Kiev, and anti-Ukrainian parties are receiving support in the political arena.

Opinion polls show Sunday's parliamentary elections in Poland could pave the way for the Confederation party to power if it strikes a deal with the populist ruling Law and Justice party. According to CNN, such an outcome is a “worst-case scenario for Ukraine and the West.”

Both parties oppose further aid to Ukraine, supported by Poles who say they are “tired” of Ukrainians: they “feel too at home here” and “threaten the local population,” CNN reports.”

Elon Musk admitted the possibility of X being blocked in the EU.

As Business Insider writes, citing sources, the American businessman discussed this issue because of the new EU law on digital services.

Musk checked with the European Commissioner for the Internal Market about what measures need to be taken to ensure that the site complies with the standards. However, there is no clarity in this, the article emphasizes.

German industrial production fell more than expected in September, data showed on Tuesday, as a recent slump in incoming orders took its toll on production.

Production fell in September by 1.4% compared with the previous month, the federal statistics office said.
Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted a 0.1% decline.
In a less volatile quarter-on-quarter comparison, production in the third quarter of 2023 was 2.1% lower than in the second quarter, the statistics office said.

After a revision of the provisional results, production decreased by 0.1% in August compared with July, less than the 0.2% of the provisional figure.

There are few figures that summarise the state of the German economy as well as industrial production, Thomas Gitzel, chief economist at VP Bank, said.

"The industry-heavy German economy is dependent on production in order to achieve reasonable economic growth rates," he said, noting that industrial production this year has been weak.
Another disappointing data release in industrial production not only suggests that third-quarter GDP growth could be revised downwards, but also that the country is likely to end the year in a technical recession, said Carsten Brzeski, global head of macro at ING.

"Even though there isn’t any hard data for the fourth quarter yet, recent developments have clearly increased the risk that the German economy will end the year in recession," Brzeski said

Slovakia ends military aid to Ukraine

Germany is close to allocating an additional 4 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, but it is unclear from what sources,Der Spiegel writes.

“Aid to Ukraine is financed not from the regular budget of the Ministry of Defense, but from a special fund without a clear departmental distribution: the so-called Individual Plan 60. Where the additional funds in the amount of four billion euros comes from is not disclosed in the Ministry of Defense document,” the publication writes.

According to reports, this amount may be taken from unused "refugee reserve" or EU funds.

Money is needed to cover the “hole” of 5.2 billion euros that are needed for arms supplies to Ukraine. It is planned to allocate another 2 billion later. This is in addition to the 4 billion planned even earlier.

German Defense Minister Pistorius called the plans to allocate additional funds "a strong signal to Ukraine that we will not abandon them."

“Our support will be significantly expanded, especially next year,” Foreign Minister Baerbock also said.

This means that the current German "traffic light coalition" is preparing for long-term military assistance to Kiev. Especially in conditions of uncertainty with American help.

Earlier, the German Ministry of Defense stated that they did not have enough funds pledged earlier for military assistance to Kiev.

Germans Shower Less to Save Money Amid Energy Crisis

14020820000722_Test_PhotoN.jpg

TEHRAN (FNA)- A considerable number of Germans have changed their grooming habits in an attempt to save money, a new poll concluded.

Some 31 percent of Germans have started taking less time showering than before the recent spike in energy prices, according to the results of a YouGov poll that surfaced in local media, RIA Novosti reported.

Likewise, 57 percent of respondents started taking shorter or colder showers, or began showering less frequently in 2023, while only 51 percent of respondents gave a similar answer the year before.

Specifically, some 28 percent of men and 34 percent of women in Germany now take shorter showers, while 22 percent of men and 20 percent of women take colder showers. About 28 percent of the respondents in Germany said they shower less often since the beginning of what one outlet described as an “energy crisis”.

Also, 48 percent of the respondents have apparently installed water- and energy-saving fittings in their showers.

Energy prices in Germany have soared after the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict, with Berlin jumping on the US’ anti-Russian sanctions bandwagon and cutting itself off from cheap Russian energy imports.

While the Russian economy managed to withstand the ensuing economic onslaught, the very countries that introduced these sanctions have experienced a drastic increase in fuel and energy prices, forcing their own citizens to literally pay for the folly of their leaders.

The EU is again trying to convince the countries of Central Asia to join sanctions against Russia.

EU Special Envoy for Sanctions David O'Sullivan will visit Astana and Tashkent on November 28-30.

The European Commission created this position last year to officially put pressure on third countries about the negative consequences of evading or circumventing the restrictive measures that have been introduced against Russia since the start of the special operation in Ukraine.

O'Sullivan is visiting Central Asian countries for the third time this year. The purpose of his visits is traditionally the continuation of a constructive dialogue regarding sanctions.

The reason for such a hasty inspection this time could be the recent talks between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin, as well as the banal desire of Western officials to make the most of the topic of sanctions while the Ukrainian agenda is still relevant.

The EU announced a new strategy back in the spring, according to which Brussels plans to increase its influence in the region, and Kazakhstan, as we remember, is especially interesting to the West for its geopolitical position, proximity to Russia and mineral deposits .

Well, sanctions on the issue of Ukraine have become an excellent pretext for putting pressure on the leadership of Central Asian countries in order to cut off ties with Russia as much as possible, and to use money for the development of alternative logistics projects.

Right now America is standing pretty good compared to some of our European counterparts and they could all blame Russia for that bullshit. Also, some of them are realizing they just can’t run up in Africa no more and take their energy.
