i want to make it next year. I always go to Brazil Carnival which is the same time (as almost all the carnivals are the same weekend)
I finally said fuck it and went. My folks been scared of Nola for a couple years. We never went to a parade together but would go to the River walk to eat, walk Canal St, walk and shop the French Market.
I’ve been to parades in Nola a couple times.
I talked about taking them to a Nola parade. The year the driver hit those people for Endymion that scared my girl. Then all of the recent car jacking sealed it for her.
Once the parades started, I asked them to go to a neighboring city parade. She was like nope I don’t like that Krewe(which is understandable). Years ago, we watch a guy throw a huge pack of beads, that knocked a lil girl off a tailgate of a truck.
So I went with daughter #3. We had a good time.
Couple days later, I went that same local city paradebut nobody wanted to go.
It’s time for my area black parade, it was fiya. It improved over the last few years. I’m actually thinking about getting a float next year. While watching that parade all I’m thinking is “I gotta go to Zulu this year, I’m home, ain’t working, I gotta go”
Daughter #1 asked if we wanted to go to a parade in Lafayette. It’s pretty big and seem chill, we could see something different.
I was like if I’m going to a parade on Saturday, I’m going to Emdimyon. They was like all lawd, I ain’t doing no New Orleans parade. Well that Saturday, my ole gal went visit our daughter and went to that parade. I went to the city and caught Emdimyoin. I sent a couple videos and they were like “WoW, that looks fiya, daughter in law was like “Damn they do it like that”
Monday night I told them going to Zulu, I’m leaving early. Daughter #2 asked how early, I said 6. I think she wanted to cry lol.
My ole gal, said she wants to come but she promised the grand baby to attend one parade with her. If she wants to come to Zulu, she’s coming but if not…they will stay home and do the local parade.
That night we after returning from another parade, grand baby said yes to Zulu. I send out a group text telling them to dress warm. We rolled out about 7:30am, got to the city bout 8:45am.
Found the start of the parade but went on Canal St.
As we walked up, the boiling pots were rolling, daughter #3 was like, oh yea”(she would eat boiling food everyday of the week if we let her”
We posted up for a while, but I realized they wasn’t gonna see much. The crowd was like 5 rows deep.
So I went hunting for a spot, I went a block down Basin but it was jam pack.
20
Mins later I went walking again but two blocks this time. There was a couple openings, went get them and the rest is history.
After the parade the grand baby said “this was amazing”, daughter #2 was like “this wasn’t nothing like I thought, it was crazy but in a good way. The vibe was good, folks was not tripping”.
My ole gal, said it was really really nice,
Was no bs, no fight over stuff etc….
On the way home, daughter #2 said “daddy you messed up, cause I don’t want to do no lil local parades anymore. It’s nice being around people you don’t know, it’s real chill”
Oh…. Daughter #3 didn’t take my dress warm warning serious… she was freezing until like 12 when I sun came out.
All in all…. I probably go there early next year and posted
Unless we try to catch it twice. Catch the start on Calborne and end on Basin
