A woman who had been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial in a 2018 arson case before being considered rehabilitated was again arrested on suspicion of arson on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Corona.
Corona police went to the 4000 block of Prado Road about 10:40 a.m. that day after a 911 caller reported seeing a woman start a fire in brush by using a flammable liquid, a news release said. The caller provided a description of the woman, and officers found her nearby just as she was trying to set a second fire, the release said.
Aysah Mikalah Magierek, 27, of Corona, was arrested on suspicion of violating her probation, arson and providing false information to a peace officer.
The Corona Fire Department extinguished the small brush fire.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department arrested Magierek in 2018 after a fire was set June 7. Three court-appointed doctors examined her before a judge on Oct. 2 declared her incompetent to stand trial, according to Superior Court records. On Nov. 19th, Magierek began receiving mental health care in Robert Presley Detention Center from Pacific Healthcare. On Dec. 17, she was certified as restored to competency — being able to assist in her own defense and understand the charges against her.
On Dec. 27, Magierek pleaded guilty to a felony arson charge and was sentenced to a year in jail, three years’ probation and ordered not to possess any incendiary devices, court records show.
