The Black woman he infected, Jordan McKnight, was abandoned by the industry & is left out of narratives around his violent betrayal altogether. She didn’t get documentaries about her experience the way others did.
Her ex-husband, a video store owner in North Carolina, shared with me decades ago that she died of complications of HIV.
But when Darren James, a black man, unknowingly passed on HIV using a clear test after returning from a shoot in Brazil, his HIPPA rights were violated and his face was plastered all over the cover of Variety.
His MOTHER found out he was HIV positive ON THE FUCKING NEWS.
The last performer I worked with in a mainstream movie, Sledgehammer, was gunned down by police after his then girlfriend called for help because he was in the middle of a mental health crisis. (She also reported there had been interpersonal violence.)
Or @Moethemoster who successfully sued a company because he made it clear he was not okay with being called a “n*gg*er” by the white female performer and the director had her do it anyway.
I’m not doing this work for shits and giggles.
I do this work because ain’t shit changed & I’m not beholden to no company or individual and have no issues with calling out bulls hit when I see it.
