Mayorkas warns FEMA doesn't have enough funding to last hurricane season

FEMA can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funding to make it through the hurricane season, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday.

The agency is being stretched as it works with states to assess damage from Hurricane Helene and delivers meals, water, generators and other critical supplies. The storm struck Florida last week, then plowed through several states in the Southeast, flooding towns and killing more than 200 people.

Mayorkas was not specific about how much additional money the agency may need, but his remarks underscored concerns voiced by President Biden and some members of Congress may need to pass a supplemental spending bill this fall to help states with recovery efforts.

“We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We are expecting another hurricane hitting," Mayorkas said. "FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.”

Hurricane season runs June 1st to Nov. 30, but most hurricanes typically occur in September and October.

The amount of waste and mismanagement associated with FEMA, I can see why senators are hesitant.

This should be their Super Bowl moment, isn't this why they exist? Plan in peacetime for war. It's like FEMA is where the government fuckups go to get a nice stable career and salary.

Before it was PPP loan money it was Fema money cause we had a couple of snow storms and niggas was filing Fema claims til they stopped taking em and that Feburary Income Tax and Fema had everyone spending.

Fema but hit the hoe stroll.

Bro, saying shit like this you might need to look twice when answering the door
it just perplexes me man.
the US gives billions of dollars in aid to 150 countries every fuckin year.....and every year it increases.
I think in 2022 it was like $74 billion total.
However, when there is a natural disaster,....we get hit with commercials asking us to donate for disaster relief.
Tha fuck?

Why should we have to donate for disaster relief when we arent asked to donate for the billions of our tax dollars that they give other countries every year?
The same way congress gives money to these countries every year without them asking,....they should give to us for disaster relief ........without askin.

Take from some of the money they are giving Israel and Ukraine.
Problem solved.
Real shit!!!!

“According to Israeli Channels, Hashem Safieldeen, which is the supposed successor to Martyr Hassan Nasrallah, is the target in Beirut.”

Next likely Hezbollah leader was reportedly target of Beirut strike

An Israeli strike on Beirut early Friday targeted senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine, a reporter from American media outlet Axios said on X, citing an Israeli source.
The Times of Israel also reported the same.
Safieddine is the man widely regarded as the heir of slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli missile attack on Lebanon last week.
There was no immediate official statement from any side.
Safieddine is Nasrallah's cousin who sits on Hezbollah's executive council and oversees the group's political affairs. Like Nasrallah, he is an Islamic cleric.

Not surprised, but I wonder WTF would be there replacement for FEMA....I never hear them talk about that.....It's always cut this and that, but no solution....

I believe in being fiscally responsible, but damn you can't just cut shit and have no adequate replacement.....

Just like if you cut Medicaid, well the cost of healthcare for those who have private insurance and etc. goes the fuck up....

Starting to believe more and more of these politicans really need to take a damn course in Six Sigma or Process Improvement.....

Fact:
This is false: FEMA does not ask for or generally accept any cash donations or volunteers for disaster response. We do encourage people who want to help to volunteer with or donate cash to reputable voluntary or charitable organizations. After a disaster, cash is often the best way to help as it provides the greatest flexibility for these reputable organizations working on the ground to purchase exactly what is needed.

If you encounter someone claiming to represent FEMA and asking for donations, be careful as that is likely a scam. Government employees will never solicit money.

Rumor: FEMA is confiscating donations for survivors.
Fact:
Rumors about FEMA turning away donations, stopping trucks or vehicles with donations, confiscating and seizing supplies often spread after a disaster. These are all false.

FEMA does not take donations and/or food from survivors or voluntary organizations. Donations of food, water, or other goods are handled by voluntary agencies who specialize in storing, sorting, cleaning, and distributing donated items.

FEMA does not conduct vehicle stops or handle road closures with armed guards -- those are done by local law enforcement.

Republicans and mainly Trump people started this bullshit. This is the type of things that could get people hurt or killed just like January 6. Sometimes I wish America was like some other countries where they took people to the roof of buildings just have a little word with them

Remember the great job they did when Hurricane Katrina hit?

:smh:
I didn’t blame FEMA for Katrina. I blame the Republicans for that fuck up. Because as soon as Democrats take over everything FEMA works well. The same mismanagement happened with hurricane Andrew I remember state officials had to curse out the bush administration to send help back in 1992.

Ukraine needs a little help….Israel or the other hand NO!!! I agree with you on we should not be sending money to Israel. As I keep telling you guys, the Ukraine thing could get extremely out of control if Russia goes into Hitler mode. Yeah initially we will not see a problem, but if he’s take over too many countries, then we will have a problem.

no, it don’t work like that. If you’re Falls and I mean completely false into Russian hands, America is screwed. Sometimes you have to prevent shit from happening before it happens. This is the same thing that caused World War II with Hitler. A lot of you guys seriously need to read history because sometimes it has a tendency to repeat itself.

True, I forgot Bush FEMA appointee didn't have any experience for the job. I also remember the reports the FEMA director (can't remember his name) was more worried about what tie to wear for his TV appearances than he was about what was going on.
