(NewsNation) — Houston rapper Trae tha Truth is seeking the public’s help in locating his 6-year-old daughter, who he says was abducted by her mother in August during a scheduled visitation.
In his first national interview, the rapper, who has primary custody of his daughter Truth, said the child’s mother, Heather Cuevas, failed to return her after a weekend visit in the Houston area. He hasn’t seen his daughter since Aug. 16.
“Truth is delightful. When she walks into a room, she definitely lights it up,” Trae told NewsNation’s “Banfield.” “She definitely changed me for the better.”

A felony warrant has been issued for Cuevas’ arrest. Multiple agencies, including the FBI, U.S. marshals, the Black and Missing Foundation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, are involved in the search.
Private investigators spotted Truth with her mother in Los Angeles in September. According to Trae, investigators observed them being moved to another vehicle but discontinued their pursuit due to safety concerns.
“I dropped off, and I told her, I see her Sunday, and I gave her a hug and a kiss, and that was the last time I seen her,” Trae said.
The rapper expressed worry about his daughter’s well-being, noting that she is currently not attending school. He said Cuevas had abandoned their apartment and vehicles, and all phone contact has been cut off.

“I definitely feel she’s in danger because mentally, I don’t know her mom’s state,” Trae said. “I don’t know where she’s sleeping, don’t know what she’s eating.”
The custody dispute between Trae and Cuevas spans six years. Earlier this year, Trae was granted primary custody, with Cuevas receiving weekend visitation rights and summer visits.
He says that his gaining primary custody may have “triggered something” in Cuevas, potentially leading to her decision to disappear with Truth.
“Truth is super damaged mentally,” Trae said, noting that she will require therapy to process this trauma. He said it has been hard having to explain Truth’s continued absence to her brothers.
