Independence dates. The TAST was very transient in the Caribbean. Slaves were moved from island to island frequently and most came direct from Africa. Only a small percentage made it to the US. Indigenous tribes were enslaved and the whites created breeding farms and a system of chattel that never existed in the Caribbean. Our history and story are nothing alike. Most Caribbean Nations ended slavery 2-3 decades before the US.

They were darker skinned if that's what you mean. Not all, but some. All of the civilized tribes held slaves, and most of them were captures from wars and tribal disputes.
