This Olympics has really hurt his brand as one of the best players in the world.
I highly doubt he would have received the NBA's largest contract ever recorded if this Olympics happened before last NBA season started. The contract he recently signed is partly based on the perceived value that he is one of the top 3 best players in the world or projected to be very soon.
After being benched twice with zero minutes logged in each game, you can never look at Jayson Tatum in the same light as you did before. It really hurt his brand. It also makes me wonder where if he knew then what he knows now, would he still participate in the Olympics.
Steve Kerr can claim everything was about strategy, but regardless of how LeBron James and Steph Curry played, they were never gonna get benched. They were always gonna be in the starting line up. Especially Steph Curry, there is some underline favoritism there.
