Pac was never a music revolutionary neither was gill IMO seriously. I listen to his work and I didn't see what the big deal is. I also listened to the Last Poets no big deal IMO. Miles Davis no doubt, Motown's own Marvin Gaye Yes, Michael Jackson of course

I only bought up Tupac because this Sista (more psuedo-girlfriend I roll with) and I got into an argument about 'Pac's status in music. She sworn up and down that Tupac changed music and that he was a Black revolutionary. Now you know I had to laugh in Girl's face. And then it went downhill from there. We didn't speak for months after that one.

Gil's work is influential. His mixture of Jazz, spoken word, and politics was second to none. And he (along with Brian Jackson) did it in a way that was very subtle, covertly hard-hitting and from the gut. He also lived it. There was nothing phony about Scott-Heron. True fans knew his personal problems. And he didn't hide from them. Either in public or via his music.

Gil is what a lot of us talk about when we say we want REAL MUSIC back! Not just in terms of melody. But also in terms of REAL songwriting.

Music like his is what all forms of Black music desperately needs right now.

BTW Acur...

MILES has always been on the tops of my list.
I saw that Cat at least 12 times throughout the 80s.

I respect this white chick. At least she interviewed him and gave him a voice. What the fuck was she supposed to do? Throw him softballs? That would contradict the name of the show. :hmm:

she started in on him immediately after the introduction

she eventually realized defeat & started acting civilized toward the end

it's crazy how she had to make herself dislike him in order to attempt to discredit him...when it was clear that she knew nothing about him as a person

while doing her research, she skipped over a lifetime of achievements to focus on about three negatives

Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets and later Gylan Kain set the foundation for rap. But Gil IMO did it best. This brother will truly be missed.
