My bad.

Not on the same level as the 1st film.
The use of camera angles and close-ups to sell the fight fell short, in my opinion, the movements were slow and unimpressive.
But it is very gory and filled with a shock factor.

Hmmmm....

Honestly the way Ridley been thre last few movies? It was to be expected.

I really didn't need this to be highly elevated. Popcorn gory gladiator fights Denzel on 11 and I was good to see some grown folk entertainment.

TLDR: This movie does not live up to the original in any shape or form.

Without divulging too much, this movie fell flat. The lead actor does not have the same screen presence as Maximus, nor does he have enough depth to make you emotionally invest in his struggle and quest for justice. I hate the long, boring-ass megaphone-amplified speeches that are in every scene he is in. The traumas he experiences are not convincing enough because the movie does not properly invest in character development.

The premise follows too much of the original movie, whereby the themes and events felt repeated and re-hatched without any further enrichment or layered detail. The twin emperors were a fucking joke as they overacted their characters to that of nothing more than childish petulant demeanors where it seemed to have wanted to sell them as the cruel and deranged successors to Commodus. I laughed more at them than I hated seeing them due to their over-the-top antics. It failed to inform the watcher as to why they were how they were so that their actions would have a rhyme and reason aside from just being incestuously pale and deranged.

Denzel is the only true saving grace in this film, but his character development happens later on in the film. His desire was born of a lie that built a nation, and this lie sought him to expose the ugly truth. He was this film's brain, heart, and comedy.

Last thought and minor spoils:
What in the effin' Sharknado just happened?
How times 1000?! :hmm:
I agree with this. It was just ok. Probably wouldn't watch it again.
It felt like there should have been a movie before this.

Apparently, this was supposed to be a 3-hour movie. There is over an hour of footage missing or cut.
I do not know if that would have made it better, but I am curious.

This was good
Maybe it doesn't hit you in the feels like the first but it's very entertaining
The phrase “cash grab” was never in my vocabulary because even though I paid money to see every Transformer movie, I have always avoided the rebooted franchises. This movie is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I’ve seen every Tranaformer movie. The writing was unfortunate with the exposition and dialogue leaving meeting and exceeding my expectations of disappointment.

It was a Sci-Fi movie with Denzel Washington in a move to at least get him reparations.

BGOL was wrong about the election but they was right about this :smh:
Time for Denzel to retire from acting
You still a legend , don’t go out like this
Let that man make his money. Don’t forget The Equilizer 80 is filming right now.

How many bad movies has Dinero made lately? If it wasn’t for dementia, Bruce Willis would still be working.

Russel crow a fool for this

Nearly 20 years ago, Nick Cave was asked by Russell Crowe to write a Gladiator II sequel. It would've featured Maximus being reincarnated, sent back by the gods, over two millennia and ending up in present day. Ridley Scott played around with the idea but the movie never came to fruition.

Saw it in IMAX last weekend...Not as good as the first but it was entertaining. Denzel steals every scene he's in as Macrimus.

Can't wait to see his portrayal of Hannibal when it comes out.

I gave it a 6.5/10. Not enough back story for people haven't seen the the first one in a while or haven't seen it. The time line was too short. Warrior then slave then gladiator then King in a weeks time. Denzel was the star. It looked good. I read that it was suppose to be a hour longer, will re-watch director's cut when it come out.

Those about to Die was better than this. The lead wasn’t good and the plot was thin.
I haven't seen those about to die, but I'll check it out on peacock.

Yes, the lead may have been Meh, and the plot thin, but Denzel made it entertaining. Those pale ass twins were almost as annoying as Kylo Ren in that recent Star Wars movie that he first appeared throwing temper tantrums.

Yes that dichotomy between the twins was different, And the outcome of the twin versus twin was unexpected, them meeting their end was welcome. But their reign was lame.

Denzel Washington needs a backyotomy for how he carried this movie, especially how he told dude to get out of what is now my house, bitch pack.

Wow I haven’t seen a movie be this divisive in Bgol 50/50
Usually, Bgol is good at declaring a movie good or not, here one post says is good, and the next says it sucks
