Godfather of Harlem (Forest Whitaker)discussion

Harlem Niccas don’t give a fuck bout no covid. Was down there yesterday. niccas Was sitting in lawn chairs in the middle of the street. Shoot on

Man late to this show...but this shit was so cold! Excellent in everyway, and they boy Swizz soundtrack fucking fire! I looked in the music thread but couldn't find it.
Truly is a great show. I feel like its underrated because of the channel its on. Has it been on HBO it would've been bigger. Glad it wasn't cancelled. Top flight acting and writing.

I binge watched this a couple months ago. Pleasantly surprised can't explain it enough. Show doesn't the recognition it deserves. I didn't expect for Malcolm get as much time as he did. A great contrast of Bumpy's story.

The Corners/The Wire was on HBO and most people didn't watch until later.

Yeah people didn't but they were critic darlings especially The Wire. People loved it in part because David Simon and he always gets love. But even then if I'm not mistaken I think John Ridley did some work with it.

Epix is .99 cents for two months on Amazon Prime, might buy it and cancel to finish this.

The most frustrating thing about shows like these is that we're not watching Black gangster vs white gangster... we're watching Black gangster vs white supremacy...when gigante was hitting bumpy with that "I'm above you" speech that was what he was referring to. Even though bumpy is as smart and ruthless as any of those guineas...at the of the day he's not just fighting them he's fighting a whole system.

Same deal for Warrior Bruce Lee's show...the Chinese may be organised and kill with the best of them... doesn't matter...it's Whitey's country....

We've seen this before in boardwalk empire and chalky white...

Let any one of them walk one block away from their turf and they're just another nigga or chink
that ANY cac can throw in jail.

That's what's knawing at me watching the show.
how do come to the conclusion it's the white man country when africans elevate them to the throne

I enjoyed this to a degree...but I got frustrated.
In a period and place of all these real and historical interesting people, I felt they focused too much on the fictional character chasing the white woman.
