I read the link and maybe you need to read a history or better yet get your info from more than one source. This is totally inaccurate. The republican party got it's roots in the north. Many black folks became and voted republican because they were the party that was for the abolishment of slavery. That is why jim crow was so dead set on not allowing black folks to vot ebecause they new they would vote republican. Dixicrats were just the extreme end of the democratic party. The republican party in the north, through the quakers, were a big part in setting up and helping tp run the underground railroad. Fredrick Douglas spent a lot of time in Boston and was a republican and lived in Rochester, NY. If republicans were not a friiend of black folks, they would have young his ass on the court house lawn in Boston.
