I forgot I was on BGOL for awhile. You can usually tell when folks know what they're talking about. For all the jokes I get on my job I've lead a few brothers onto a serious path.

The OP asked Dr. Truth about being a doctor and you up in here talkin bout helpin cats become janitors.:smh:

There are many reasons why people shouldn't join the Family Practitioner field when there are comparable titles out there that earn just about the same.

Good info Dr. Truth,

I take my Mcat/Pcat at the end of the summer. It's med school or pharm school or hell even grad school for me.

You may wanna think of Optometry or Dentistry. These are the best lifestyles of probably all healthcare professionals. Pharm school...its looking to get pretty saturated in the next couple of years. About 20 new schools have opened up.

Very good point. My friend is a dentist and she only works 4 days a weeks and clocks $188k/yr.

I'm not a doctor but my field of law allows me to work 4 days a week and make a good living too.

Based on my own interactions with both dentists and optometrists, I feel the latter has a easier path towards acquiring the degree. But I'm bias because this bloody Resident has fucked up my fillings twice and I have to return again because my fillings either chipped or wasn't completed correctly. If it's damn lady again I'm going to have to speak to her teacher.

That's the truth right there. As soon as my wife earned her ANP license she started getting offers no less than $110,000. I was always amazed by how much they were willing to start off. She would always say, "I'm glad I went to graduate school and earned my Masters in Nursing, now I don't have to worry about all the headache that comes with being a Charge Nurse. Thank God. I'm free!!"

Work hard, get a good education, and remain humble and you'll see what happens.

Tell your wife to get her Ph.D. in Nursing, they are already starting to tell some NP"s to do this to weed them out. It will be mandatory in the next 10 years. At the hospital I work at half the nurses are already in the PhD program.

Becoming a doctor isn't easy. Apart from the dedication, u need to pucker those lips up..... cause at some point in time u'r gonna have to kiss some ass depending on who u'r professional mentor is, if not then expect to be past over on opportunities of advancement. I can guarantee you that. Some doctors can be real world class assholes where they have this sense of entitlement. Compound that with the fact that within that social circle, they are treated like rockstars or celebrities (again strictly within the confines of that social circle). It's like Halloween or Masquerade somedays, cause medical personals or staff act different around doctors than they do with other people. The difference can be night and day. It's almost like a very subservient culture when u'r around doctors. I don't expect you to relate or know what I'm talking about. But if being an M.D is the path you have decided to take u will be exposed to the things I mentioned above.

Keep in mind not all doctors are assholes, but you will come across u'r fair share though.

Yours Truly.....Professor

REAL TALK RIGHT HERE

this is good information, not some Google's medical information like the other stuff provided.

You cats can be whatever you want to be on BGOL.

This is true. Which makes it all the more sad and disturbing that you choose to be what you are around here.

Now go wipe Steve Jobs cumworm off ya face.

Perhaps, but dr truth is not a doctor. Maybe his wife is or a friend of his is, but he certainly isn't. What psychiatrist behaves like him? Look at his post history... Look at the threads he creates.... http://www.bgol.us/board/search.php?searchid=15941012

You people are the most gullible fools on this planet.

Bruh, I've done drugs with MANY cops, including many on the drug enforcement squad, but that didn't mean that they weren't cops. May not have been good ones, but they were still cops none the less.

I have 1 or 2 friends that went the optometry route and both can't find a position as we speak..you woud think with the advent of things like lasik surgery and even contact lenses to a degree that the field of optometry is not a popular one. As far as dentistry, it easily isn't anywhere near my first choice, i'm actually quite surprise they make the kind of money they do, i've never had a problem scheduling an appointment! The dentist office never seems to be busy. Finally i think its amongst the nastiest health profession and if im not mistaken has the highest suicide rate of all the health professions (i have no idea why)....crazy!:smh:

Pharmacy is your best bet if you have to ask

I know quite a few people in pharm school, the test and criteria to get in are far easier than med school! Interestingly their are projections out their saying even with it raising popularity their is still expected to be a shortage of about 127,000 pharmacist by 2024! Is this necessarily my first choice...no, but with salaries starting at about $40-60 an hour i think i'll be fine.
