You need to double dip with your pension and a consulting gig with the government, fuck these younglings trying to come up. You are going to live forever, so you need to work until you die.
I'm not trying to work no more. I can focus on my writing, my kids if I have them by then and relax. I am not trying to work until I die, and I'm not trying to punch anybody else's clock

Most jobs don't have age adjusted policies for younglings that are just starting out. Let say they show up late or don't follow policy on something, they should provide them additional guidance and leeway. They should track their improvement. Somebody like me who has been in the game for years, shouldn't have any slack.

This gives older workers an advantage and makes us appear more reliable when we have been coached for years.

True.

But this Government is not gonna let White folks suffer.

Whatever Money you have in the bank, investments (401k, IRA’s, etc), the US Government has full access to those funds and can seize it if needed.

The Government won’t take all of it, but they will tax the shit out of it. Along with increasing FICA withholdings from the younger generation who is working full time.

Basically the old ROB PETER TO PAY PAUL routine.

Don’t go kicking your legs up on the desk thinking you are safe.

Agreed. Especially with the shit the entire world's been through the past 3 years. The uncertainty. And of course the high / expensive cost of living. One has to be able to find ways to economize. Find ways to stretch a dollar ... to have a side hustle or two.

I remember being a little kid with a newspaper route and mom taking me to open my first bank account. First big purchase I saved for was a Supersoaker watergun.

Pops reminding me as a teen with a paycheck ... learn to spend a portion on yourself & try to save the rest.

As a broke college kid in 2000 ... mom recommending I open an RRSP account (retirement savings). I was like WTF ... I don't have any money. She said to "just get into the habit" ...doesn't matter how big or small the annual contribution is. It can't hurt in the long-run ... and it's something you think about later on when you're doing better for yourself and have a stable income and can actually make legit contributions.

Retired military pension brings in plenty at about 70k annually
100% VA disabled with spouse and kids under 18 brings me another 4300 a month for 51k~ annually; drops to 3800 a month when they grow up though
traditional IRA I have had for years (my first OIC in the army taught us all how to get one and made us do it)
Investment portfolio (mentioned here before) has done really well over almost 28 years now (wifey's is even better; I lucked out)
starting a new 401k with my current job that I will roll over as much as possible if I move around.
very good savings (i thank multiple deployments for that).
SS when able/eligible just be fucking cause I can

Planning on stopping as soon as my youngest two (twins) are done with college. Age 62, NO LATER THAN 65 if I have a hiccup between now and then.

We gone be really straight in Shadow Land, fam.

How u feeling about the market now tho fam ?
My long term investments haven't cost me money but they lost so much value, I just got in some things where I wasn't gonna lose money.
I can absolutely say my worth was much more 2 years ago.
I don’t know your age fam, if you don’t plan withdrawing for 15-20 years you ain’t losing money. You’re losing account value, ride the drops and buy shares at a discount. If you need the cash in 5-10 years completely different story.

I have damn near twenty years to go..my focus is really on health......I seen too many cats,

retire with nice accounts... but not really in the best shape to enjoy it...

I made up my mind a long time ago.... to do things a little different....

Green juice with lemon and ginger anyone???

Agreed. Plan for the future and be serious / realistic.

But also have that work-life balance along the way, and not run yourself into the ground in the process wherein you can't enjoy yourself or your loved ones with quality time.

Mine isnt matching either but luckily I have two other 2040 plans making me some money.

Update: Things are better now. Company now matches contributions so that is going. My brokerage account I just bought more ETFs that are doing well for the long play. Got a High Yield Savings Account that pays out 4.25%. I have about 20 more years of work left so hopefully I will be able to semi-retire. I will probably get another cool little job to keep myself active.

I have a feeling Congress will eventually cut VA disability or make it even harder to obtain. It was on the chopping block this year, but if everything goes with a conservative congress, I can't see how it can survive. https://www.hillandponton.com/proposed-va-budget-cut/

Now that the war is over and we have as many combat veterans as we did a few years after Vietnam who are trying for benefits I don’t disagree. The thing is Total and Permanent is (truly) just that after 55 and I’ll be there soon. Sounds kinda selfish but you know what I’m saying.

Getting VA disability has never been easy to, in some cases now they can downgrade you disability percentage if your in the 100% to 80% range. The won't cut VA disability with elections around the corner.

I actually didn’t use TSP when it started up for the military around 2000. A costly mistake but one I’m correcting using the TSP catch-up now that I am above 50 and just became a GS employee (another story on why I stopped contracting).

My coworker was about to get 200k into his TSP in 7 years using the catch-up which allows you 30k a year instead of the 22,500 it regularly does.

I plan to retire from active law practice at 61, then I’ll do some real estate development until 66 and quit working then.
Jagu I’m glad you’re around. We were worried about you for a while there. Still trying to get on your level career wise.

Thank you brother. The last 4 years have been super hectic with work but it appears things are cooling down at this moment. That's why I've been coming in and out of here.

Agreed. This is outrageous that they are targeting an already difficult pool of money that affects less than 1 percent of the population. I hate how they stay fuckin with the military and veterans. But never mind the outrageous spending for say, illegal immigrants or grandiose infrastructure plans or green technologies that bear little fruit. Bullshit
