This place got me through college, through my 20s and into an adulthood and all that normal shit that goes along with it. Wisdom and guidance of this board is part of who I am. The board has changed a lot from the wild wild West days, but still has significant value. Case in point, porn used to drive the main board, now it’s and after thought with the exception of a few long-term posters to keep it alive like Deuce.

I’ll be sad as hell but the world goes on. Honestly, I thought HNIC was gonna shut this bitch down years ago because it wasn’t profitable. I do think it was better when it was closed, but it is what it is.

Found BGOL and damn near got on probation the first semester fucking around spending so much time on here because shit loaded SO much faster than it did, like you said, on dial up. This place is our barbershop....but as the internet has become what it is, BGOL isn't needed anymore for the youngsters. Porn is free and easily available. Most other media is readily available. Hundreds of messageboards and sites exist to congregate and share ideas. Social media has taken over.
I've been rocking with yall since On Probation days. From dial-up 56K killer desktops, to 5Gcellphone; BGOL was always one of the first websites added to the Favorites, lol! I was Lurking mostly, been through the many changes. I still have hard drives full of music and movies that I've collected for nearly 20 years. I still come here to download music, lol! Why, I don't know! My boys laugh at me when I say I still download music, lol!
But I'll say this...seeing some of the OGs pass away is surreal. We may not know each other in the real world, but BGOL brotherhood is real. We have shared a lot with each other. I've used this platform to express things that I wouldn't dare say to anyone. Confessed to things that I couldn't tell to the closet people in my life. The anonymity provides a freedom for a lot of us on here.
I'll be here until I'm gone or BGOL is gone.

Another thing worth noting about this board, there was an era before streaming that everything you wanted, you could get here. I’m talking full albums, video games, movies, software (someone used to post a cracked copy TurboTax every year for about a decade), it was ALL here, without the chaos of a lot of other places (well, besides the talking shit). Shit, I remember when folks used to make hidden links for you to access what they were droppin. Folks will put their peoples’ on to BGOL and tell them to keep it in house, and their peoples’ obliged.

Game has changed. When was the last time there was a good old fashioned ock’ing? I legit think that people are at a point in a life where they are more worried about potential liability as opposed to putting in someone on front. And I have to imagine that HNIC will probably shut down any ock threads that could risk this venture and his personal life.

When this bitch really got cracking most of the board where a bunch of young dudes having a good time, now folks got responsibilities and time constraints on top of all the other avenues. But this place will always be home.

FWIW, some legendary threads, IMO:

- the crypto thread (a lot of folks made money off of that thread)

- Someone posted the entire season four of The Wire before it even hit HBO

They ran off the Women and attacked new members who didn't think like them. It was allowed to the point where this Board is just to hostile for new people. I'm a Vet, I can deal with the ignorance but someone new. Who has the time to stay on an outdated format with bitter old men? When you have more interactive social media outlets like Tik Tok, Instagram, etc. Those formats offer personal interaction with real people not hiding their faces out of fear someone will discover their not ballers but losers. Not everyone is gonna win, everybody takes a L and that's ok. There's just too many bitter old men on this board who feel safe hiding in the mob. That along with a dying format is a death sentence. Regardless of what you may think now, we're middle aged and we have nothing in common with the new generation.

He may never be number one again but that's irrelevant after 2 decades. He has members that aren't going anywhere unless he shuts this bitch down.

There are few state your age threads

Especially when you have threads that are 10 or 15 years old being bumped to the front page. I’m not sure about the average age of users, but as you mentioned, the topics discussed seem to come from people in their late 30s and up.

One of the main problems is that the main message board is too congested. If something is posted there, it should stay up for no longer than 48 hours before being moved to a subforum to help distribute traffic across the site.


The subforums are definitely underutilized, and there really should be a membership fee to be on the board. I’d love to see more information on investing—whether in stocks, real estate, or cryptocurrency—as well as more content on DIY cooking, traveling, living abroad, and networking, with much less focus on porn. Over the past four years, especially during the pandemic, a lot of financial opportunities were missed because valuable knowledge wasn’t posted on the board. If it was posted on the main board, it often got lost due to lack of visibility, and the original poster couldn’t maintain the thread.


It’s not about quantity; it’s about quality on the board. With a $100 annual membership fee and knowledgeable contributors, I think we could accomplish a lot.

I like the concept Karen Hunter implemented with her website, Narrative, and Knubian.

I think we also need to take into account that internet forums are a bit dated. Younger folks like social media, reddit, discord, youtube, streaming.
