Some NICE gear in these lists....surprised there's no surge protection listed and the wire seems cheap for the amount spent on the rest of the gear...and no mention of interconnects.

If ya gonna build a system, ya need good wire...it's like having a hi-performance car with cheap tires...my speaker wire and connects were worth over a stack by themselves.

Sold AV gear awhile back..most of my pardnas were in the biz as well. I used to tell the Bose lovers..."the people I know have access to damn near all the best speakers and gear...usually for VERY reduced prices or FREE. NOBODY I know has Bose speakers as part of their set up."

Bose had the 901's going for them and that "direct-reflecting technology," whether you believed it or not. The 901's were very good for events like discos and weddings because they could handle unlimited power. Coupled with a Phase Linear power source they rocked. Buuuuut people took them into their homes and unless you had a big basement, they were wasted. And they weren't as responsive as monitors.
Next, Bose had the cubes, again with the direct-reflecting technology. People went crazy for them because they saved space. But they never really had an attached sound; if you weren't perfectly situated and kept still the bass and cubes sounded detached. This is also when Bose started going wild with the tuning of their cabinets, essentially doubling the Q factor in the same space. But you can't beat physics and muddy mids and not-so-high highs were the results. People loved the cubes and the radios though so who am I to say. But as a musician I never liked them. You want as little tuning in your cabinets as possible.

I'm sure you know all this but I wrote it so other people who might be confused about why stay away from Bose.

901s were good and I know folks who had em for years and Bose would recondition em for free. Some of the new commercial stuff is good, also. Plus, they paid the hell outta you, so I sold a shitload of their stuff...the points program alone damn near supplied everything from my bed, washer/dryer, several nice watches...speakers or other stuff I'd trade or giveaway...that's one of the great things about the AV industry.. They wanted you to use their gear and would have all kinda contests, promotions...after awhile, you almost couldn't take all the 1099s they started issuing. But, we pimped the shiddd outta it.. One of my boys used the points he got from selling Mitsubishi TVs as a nice size down payment on a Mitsubishi 3000 GT car..

Bose plays with the frequency to make people think it sounds good. The bass is cut off but lower midrange exaggerated. It makes the speakers seem powerful and like they have a lot of bass but they don't. The highs are awful and cut off too. Ideally, a sound system try to will play music the way it was recorded. Most try to do this. Bose does not.
