There's a ton of white rappers, they just don't have Dr. Dre breaking them out.

why dont u think labels arent pushing them?
why dont u see jay-z,puff,or 50 pushing a white rapper?
i know puff had one but he didnt push him.
seems like it would make a lot of $$$

Nah man everything she got around white folk she would speak proper and shit and soon as she went to the source awards or some black event she speaking like she from the hood. That shit was annoying.

Shit, I do that at work....well, when I was working! Sounds like she can adapt when needed and when she round her people, be relaxed and comfortable. I hate a muhfucka that talks crazy when in the spotlight....makes us all bad. I don't want my people getting all in the camera talkin like Monta Ellis n shit.....shits embarrassing!:lol:

They have tried, it's just that once Eminem hit the scene it pretty much ruined it for all CACS afterward. If Em never came out I'm sure you'd see more.

I feel pretty much the same OP. When that Funk Flex thing happened at first, I gave him all kinds of excuses. But he's the same every time he goes to DJ. He's. dare I say it. WHACK.
The video makes it even worse than just listening, cuz you can see him switching characters, and falling out of his "southern swag".

Everyone else will know soon.

Southern Swag? Dude is from Canada born and raised. He is the same as Weezy and Nicki minaj. No talent nothing to say rappers. Do I hate him, no. He is what MC hammer was years ago. Entertainment. He will clear the way for some other rapper to rise up because people thinks he can freestyle. i am OK with that because nothing has come close to Common, BDP, public Enemy in years. So why are you dissing him?

People don't freestyle when they make an CD, they write that shit. Give this shit a rest please.

I completely disagree.

You can't come out with lyrics stating "last name ever first name greatest" and get in the booth with a damn blackberry. I just turned 30 and maybe i'm an oldhead but I know that pac, BIG, Nas, Mos and other cats spit off the top of their head. The video was pathetic. It seemed like he was apologizing at the end for his pathetic performance. I respect his hustle and initially I was a huge fan. He is starting to become like Sarah Palin now, he keeps getting vetted and you are starting to see his true colors.

Going to these stations are not like it was back in the day. In the 90's rappers could get bent out of their mind, go to Sway and Tech or Bobbito and Stretch, and bug out on the mic because it was for the culture. Nowadays you cannot go on Flex, Green Lantern, or anyone else without your shit tight. Today's fans are finicky, so any chance you get to reach them has to be as strategic as possible. It sucks but it's all about promotion.

is it me or did he throw a shot at J. Cole

"who else really tryin 2 mess with hollywood cole"

on who dat b4 J cole spits audio comes in and says "now who wanna fuck wit hollywood cole"

just something i notice no biggy...drake dont want it lol

If he gets into a lyrical battle with J. Cole he's gonna lose. Problem is that the general public will think that Drake won just because he's the most visible.Plus J. Cole took a couple of shots at Drake in the song Who Dat. The Fresh Prince reference is a reference to Drake. As a matter of fact the 3rd verse seems aimed at Drake.

I believe Lil Wayne when he says that he doesn't write shit. You can tell because the verse really isn't related as he goes on plus I think it's a huge reason as to why he doesn't really rap about anything.

I wouldn't underestimate Drake lyrical abilities. I think he is just focused on making a deep fan base. Drake seems like the cat that people underestimate until he knock one of your peeps out cold.

Drake's style is pointed at the young ladies. That is his demo. As long as women is buying his cds/going to concerts, Drake wouldn't give a damn about satisfying any hip hop critic. However, once that well dry up, I think Drake could be a decent challenge for any lyricist. Now, will he win is another question...

First of all, props to Richmond Renegade for posting that cypher joint with Lupe he is on another level. As far as this people not free styling goes, I was just having this convo with my boy and come on folks. 95% of the so-called freestyles on the radio is remember/rehearsed material including that stuff on the bet awards. I do think however that most artist back in the day had tons of rhymes stored in their head so if they heard a beat, they could just put their rhymes to it. Drake obviously doesn't really remember his rhymes cuz he doesn't have to with smart phones and stuff, but he was clearly unprepared. I do think free styling is an art that only a few gifted souls truly can do, but there is always a difference in quality because you are thinking on the fly. Andre 3000 said himself in an interview that he is horrible at free styling but he will write the hell out of a verse and I believe him. Anyhow, I am not gonna hate on Drake because I think he is just one facet of hip hop. I just think today's mainstream suffers from a lack of equal exposure because I will bump his stuff when I am in ride out mode, but in the same token bump Kweli, Budden, Little Brother, Black Milk the list goes on. But just cuz the common hip hop fan doesn't know that this other stuff exist doesn't mean that he is the blame. The powers that be have made sure that only a small few know that there is more to hip hop than what is on the radio.

Lot of valid points in that article. Ill agree that Drakes persona does seem fake at times. Keep in mind that he is an actor...which probably would explains why he's able to be "fake it" around dumbfounded people and get away with it. His lyrics also seem "Lil Wayenish" at times....but i still fucks with him. He's not the best in the game IMO...but talent wise....he's better than most of the kats thats out right now.....and thats disturbing?

but anyways....ill admit that i got a nice number of Drake & Lil Wayne's tracks in constant rotation. Both of them are talented IMO. Are they commercial? Yeah. Why? Lust for money....lust to stay relevant to make lots of money :dunno:

As for Wayne...well Wayne is cool...but Wayne tries to sound profound/clever at times like ah Nas, Common, Jay Z, etc...but its just not there. He gets an "A" for the effort though.

I honestly think people are just hungry for another artist to "jump out the box". I believe that the guy that wrote that article used to be a Drake fan...but then Drake went the "money route" and it hurt his feelings. If I were him i would just do what i do....listen to the old stuff....underground hip hop, etc. Hip Hop Heads actually have options......and the tru hip hop heads are aware of this; but some would rather just bitch about a system that wont be changing anytime soon.

I swear his underground "Buzz" was like 3 months. Mostly from Groupie females who watched Degrassi. Other than that, I did not hear shit about a Drake. In fact Papoose had a larger buzz than Drake and look what happened. It's some weird phenomenon that took place.

The weird phenomenon was two words: CHRIS BROWN. Think back - that's when Drake TRULY blew up. Teen pop chicks needed a new idol FAST during the Chris/Rihanna shit and among the contenders - J Cole and Drake - Drake won. Drake was on the rise but his name wasn't on everyone's lips until after that. He's a type like Chris is. This shit happens almost every time a scandal in the industry happens. I know some of you don't believe me but it does. Just WATCH the next time a major star has career-damaging drama. You'll see people moving their own celebs into position to take the slot, whether it be they have a similar sound or similar image. And for the record, I think J Cole is better.

Nah bro... as corny as I think Drake is I can't just sit there and act like he hasnt been on a come up for a while. Dude put out several mixtapes with some solid content before even getting on with Wayne and them. He had a following from TV which helped but as far as he and J Cole going head to head, nah.

Jay-z has purposely held J Cole back to let the Drake fever run its course. Now that he's dropped his album, you'll see J Cole getting the green light. They may bump heads in the future but they definitely werent jockeying for the top spot before. It was Drakes time and now Cole is about to get his.

Please don't put Drake and MC Hammer in the same sentence.

Hammer's rap was wack as fuck but his entertainment was all time great.

Based on that video I just saw, Drake is pretty wack.

Let him make his money though. Quality stands the test of time. I am not sure if he will. I Wish him luck though.

"there is something naggingly inauthentic about Drake"

This right here says it all.
To qoute KRS "rap is something you do, Hip-Hop is something you live".

This cat is not hip-hop plain and simple. He is a rapper. His music is not made for me so while I dislike his music I don't hold any real disdain for the cat personally because we are in two different lanes. Now if somebody that I felt embodied hip-hop like Mos, or Black Thought, got in the booth and read their shit line for line from their blackberry then I would be :smh::angry:.

I am under no illusion that cats are coming off the top of the dome any time they freestyle. But if you know you are going to be on a show and asked to freestyle be ready case in point.

Keith Murray on Bet's Rap City he tore that shit down.

Couldn't find the youtube video but here's a link to the video. If any one can embed it that would be much appreciated.

Hammer was one of the realset dudes in the game

+

he would probably smack the shit out of any rapper out today

+

he was a world class entertainer. I remember cats debating who had a better show, Hammer or MJ back then.
