Every time I step into a USPS postal office, there’s always an employee getting angry over something. Is it that bad???
You just summarized it in a nutshell. However I’m 27yrs in( started at 20yrs old) it’s not for everyone. I work only in P&DC’s( big plants midnight shift T1) Good benefits, very good money with crazy overtime, lots of fucking) because we see our co-workers more than our families) I’ve done hit damn near 12 fine ones over the years. I work most holidays including Christmas( triple the pay per hourNo. Its just boring and repetitive.
I'll tell you the biggest problem - the bureaucracy in the place. There is a position called a 204-B that is the devil. Its a "management" position that makes it difficult to work with others. Basically, its an "if your co-worker were your boss" scenario. Its a working "sub-supervisor" position where one day you are working with someone and the next day they are your boss and the day after, they are back to working with you. The thing is, you stay in that position until management slots open up, which they almost never do.
People work together for years doing the same job over and over. Most P.O. jobs don't have high turnaround. Its decent money and hella benefits. So, imagine working with someone you can't stand but y'all do the same job, so you can tell them to fuck off when they get on your nerves. Now imagine never knowing when one day they will be your boss for the day/week/month and you have to keep the peace or else they'll exact revenge on you for telling them to fuck off that one time back in the day. Its an easy position to get to, also.
I did it for a couple of years when I was young - the absolute WORST time to work at the P.O. Its a dead-end job.
Management keeps stress levels high. 204B's make it worse because they get to play boss for a short time and most of them shouldn't be. Its basically just a pay bump opportunity but comes with the occasional opportunity to power trip.
Folks couldn't understand why I walked away from that gig. No one in their 20s should work there unless they are handicapped.
I see why MFs go nuts there. I'd never go back.

Its true that its not for everybody. It wasn't for me but I gave it a shot.
Glad its going well for you, though. Get ya paper! Midnight shift? Ah, hell yeah! OT like a MF! You usually need a lot of seniority to get those spots. You a vet?
Stop bangin' them Christmas casuals, knigga!

Do it! Best gig in that MF!I'm going on my 6th year....
And I'm a 204b...mfkr! Hahaha
I need to holla at y'all cats, I'm sure we definitely got some similar stories!!! Hahaha
I'm thinking of switching crafts to custodial.... thanks to covid a lot have taken the retirement package and these mfkrs are basically printing money at some of these stations.....paid for 10 (technically 11) only work 4-5 hrs.....shit is super cake!
Its not a "sexy" gig but definitely less stress and responsibilities and same if not more base $$$
Easy job where you take 5 minutes to sell a stamp then go around the back for a break every time you help one customer.
I worked at the P&DC, too.

shieeet we got this supervisor (he came in as a PTF 10yrs ago) this nigga hitting any chic - bottom of the barrel type. This nigga fucked this chic and had 4 kids by her-(while married) on the same shift T1 and still tryna fuck the new Christmas casualsI'm going on my 6th year....

Its the worse place unless you've worked for AT&T as an operator.
Half the office be on some type of stress related FMLA.
Have to ask permission to use the bathroom and can get written up if you take longer than 7.5 minutes.
No such thing as an excused absence. Dr note don't mean shit.
Flu? Bring your ass to work. Children sick bring your ass to work.
Maybe now but not the 6 years I worked there. Not true especially now, mfkrs working flex schedules now due to covid....mon,tues and Saturday...or thurs - sat type shit for daycare / baby sitter issues
And there are definitely excuses absences
His sacrifice, that is what a father does50’s to the 90’s, Other than teaching, it used to be the fastest way to the middle class for Black men. My father hated the job, but he bought houses and cars, fed a family of 8 and got us all into college. The job had great health insurance and he retired comfortably after 30 years.
Lot of my boys are custodian in the post office.. I came in this thread to say custodian postal jobs is easy money according to all my boys.. bullshit 95 percent of the day and work 5 percent of the timeShit. You'd have to kill somebody to get fired. Y'all make the real money, though.
When I first started there, I learned that the best job in that MF was the midnight custodial gig. I was like "the janitor?" Then I learned that postal "custodial" just means they pick mail up off the floor and clean letters out of the machines. There were always a bunch of older brothas. Sitting in the corner, just talking shit all day. Every once in a while they would come through, pick up a letter off the floor that flew out from the machines and go back to chillin'. A supervisor broke it down to me: "they're vets. They don't do shit. Never start shit with them. You will get tossed out faster than a MF." They were like the untouchables. Best damn hustle in the P.O.! My ass was a clerk, so it was back to feeding the machines for me: A big ass 6'4" knigga and a bunch of tiny Vietnamese and Fillipina chicks.
Easy gig, though. I started as a casual.
Are any of them ex-military?Lot of my boys are custodian in the post office.. I came in this thread to say custodian postal jobs is easy money according to all my boys.. bullshit 95 percent of the day and work 5 percent of the time
nah none are ex military.. old trick nigs use to do since the 90s was wait for the holiday season and get down with the post office cause that’s when they would be hiring for seasonal work.. the trick was if they liked you they would keep you after the holiday season.. that’s how a lot of my boys got their jobs with them in their late teens , early 20s... somehow most of them were custodians.. cause of the ease they never left.. in fact a lot of them would have night shift.. a lot of them yrs ago also started doing food delivery hustle (postmates, Uber eats, etc) so get double bread.. lot of them be going on trips and shit due to mad vacation time they got..they be wilding lolAre any of them ex-military?
I heard they had veterans' preference for that gig.
Its a solid gig; the post office. I was just too young at the time to settle into something like that.
If you got the discipline to do it, you can carve out a decent life for yourself.
Anybody who's ever worked there would laugh their asses off at accusations of voter fraud.
Ain't nobody got time for that!
The first time Trump tried to put that on the P.O., I laughed my ass off. I bet everybody that's ever worked there did, too. Its cameras EVERYWHERE; even back when I did the gig. Its too easy to prove that B.S. wrong.
That's how I did it, too. I never got that custodial option. That may have been mandatory overnight shift. It was clerk, carrier or mail handler for me. I said fuck that outside shit. Its been a long time, but I remember that I opted for day shift. The overnight shift was the money shift, though.nah none are ex military.. old trick nigs use to do since the 90s was wait for the holiday season and get down with the post office cause that’s when they would be hiring for seasonal work.. the trick was if they liked you they would keep you after the holiday season.. that’s how a lot of my boys got their jobs with them in their late teens , early 20s... somehow most of them were custodians.. cause of the ease they never left.. in fact a lot of them would have night shift.. a lot of them yrs ago also started doing food delivery hustle (postmates, Uber eats, etc) so get double bread.. lot of them be going on trips and shit due to mad vacation time they got..they be wilding lol
night Pay + less work.. they even said they would sneak out to go do shit than comeback to work.. like I said them nigs is crazy lolThat's how I did it, too. I never got that custodial option. I ain't mad at 'em for getting that money. That was a smart move - starting in NYC then moving to a cheaper city. Really, all you have to do is be on time clocking in and clocking out and the jobs themselves are easy.night Pay + less work.. they even said they would sneak out to go do shit than comeback to work.. like I said them nigs is crazy lol
