Japanese reactions to Serena Williams' nude ESPN mag cover

You know what. I know there are some fucked up comments in there but I noticed that they lacked the hatred and deep racism that I see when looking at racial comments on american sites.
I just saw some comments about her size, some who love/hate black skin, some about her not so cute face and some about black stamina and sexuality. Seems more like people are in awe than anything else.
But if that's how they act, then fuckem electrik. You seem like a cool chick. Let the bs roll off your back and keep it moving. I dont remember much about racism and shit in the long thread about bgol members living in japan though.

The thing about Japanese people is that they (we) are very polite and not direct like Americans. And living in Japan, doing business with Japanese people is a lot better than in America because they judge u not on your nationality (usually) but on your WORD and your LOYALTY. The politeness in Japan is something I definitely miss cuz some ppl are so rude here in Chicago its crazy ridiculous.

I should not be surprise by this but I had a view that most Japanese people were down to earth and cool with every one except for the older one. sad to hear that situation about you with your people and all. just can't paint every one in broad stroke I guess

I did a short stint in Tokyo and from what I saw there was racism/prejudice there like everywhere else. Its just a different type of monster. They are more passive aggressive with it. I mean the type of racism I got over there was "your faster than me..... you have a big dick dont you..... can you rap/shoot hoops with me"

That a damn good thread. One of the reasons I suggested a travel forum but they did homegrowns instead. Cant say I'm too mad at that.

My dad was stationed over there in the 60s and he said that the women who went out with him or who he befriended would always ask to see his tail. When he asked where they got the idea that Black people had tails he said they told him the White military men said that Blacks were closer to monkeys and apes than humans and so Blacks had tails. (The Whites were trying to freeze out the Blacks from getting any Asian poon-tang)
(He laughed while telling me this part) He would then tell them that Black's tails were in the front ... not in the back and would then show them and they would blush and giggle while touching and holding it. After that, he didn't have any trouble getting any dates. I kinda wonder if we might have an older sibling or two over there we don't know about ... I'd love if that were true! Cause I love Asian women!

Coming from someone who has been living in Japan for quite some time, that's not accurate. Japanese (as shocking as this may sound) are like everybody else. There are Japanese women that are just into "Japanese" things, YET have dated/are dating black men. It's not because the alleged "some" (and there are MANY that fit into that "some" category mind you) have a "black fetish," it's because some average brother said what's up, they vibed, etc.
Are there xenophobic idiots over there? Absolutely, just like everywhere else. Difference is, you won't see any of their xenophobes walking around with "Obama is a racist bigot" T-shirt like they would back in America.
The look/view of Japan back in the day and now are very different. The government certainly has some fucked up policies as it deals with non-Japanese people, but your average everyday Japanese person (women especially) don't have the "anti-black men" views like some of you seem to think. I'm willing to bet that a couple on this board are of Japanese/Black backgrounds and certainly have horror stories about how they were treated by Japanese KIDS (in particular) growing up. Most kids of interracial relationships go through a unique type of discrimination growing up, Japan is no different. However, that generation that said person grew up in Japan is not a fair reflection of the treatment that an interracial kid would grow up to nowadays in Japan (I base that on my close work relations within the Japanese school systems).
Just looking at one of my many relationships with Japanese women, I once dated a Japanese gothic woman who wasn't into any of the soul music, hip-hop culture, etc that I was into. Yet, she was into me.
