I think you're right in some respects and wrong in others.
Max graduated from Columbia with a degree in History. So no he's not a traditional "journalist."
Yes he carved out his own lane, but Stephen A has been doing this as a career since day one in the Philly Newspaper days.....
SAS obviously cares about "cutting his teeth" the old way in the business. Max is "new age," made a name for himself and thats how he got on.
I'm not sure if it's SAS being grumpy old man or a weathered black man knowing that not many black kids could do it the way max did.......
Also Max was not fired! SAS said I can't work with him, please do something else with him. And they did, Skip had Shannon FIRED.

I love journalism and miss real sports journalism and was a fan of SAS since he was in Philly championed him on first take and wrote a letter to espn when he was fired and was part of focus groups at espn radio and defended him.
I'm saying SAS is being disingenuous and trying to rewrite contort and shoehorn sh*t to denounce Max.
Max MADE himself into a "sports journalist" and TV personality. At a time where there was no real internet or social media or outlet to just TALK and build your own audience.
And that cutting your teeth stuff SAS is doing is sone serious selective sh*t.

And by the way SAS was so bad with his football takes ESPN had to literally create a boot camp for him.

Most of his reporting were on local high school sports in the Triad area (Winston Salem, Greensboro, and High Point), NC...
Add to the fact he played (even though he rode the bench) for one of the most iconic coaches in HBCU and D2 sports in Big House Gaines, which I am sure he learned alot of Gems from...
I think your point about Max is very important. He didn't get Max fired, just said I can't work with him....Not sure if he was EP at the time, but if so, I am going to assume he had some control on how he wanted his show to be operated and ran.

Flip is under contract until February. Mfkr thought it was early /mid January, then Ian and Joe had him look at the paperwork again and it's February. So he was salty about that.
But yeah their veiled exchange on the main pod was hopefully followed up by a more transparent conversation on the paid side.....

It sounded like Flip asked for more $ as a *bonus* not sure what about metrics / stipulations...etc involved, but Joe was quick to say it was not a "raise" it was money on top of his salary. Also, Flip asked for it temporarily, I think it was 3 months, but Joe in reality had been paying it for 5 months. Flip wanted the extra to continue, Joe said nah your paperwork says $X, I've been paying you $Y. Now we gotta go back to $X. And Flip is unhappy with that.
My thing is, Flip is doing shit with WWE, his late night show and that improv shit seems to be getting views.....You're not gonna be rich off the main pod. Ice does his Tw-ch shit, walkthroughs and whatever else, Ish is still in construction and now does speaking engagements, Mel....aye man she's Mel.... you've used the main pod as a springboard, I'm not sure what the problem is. He's getting his own u tube / online money.....
