at the end of the day, people are also making music the people want to listen to. That's why the Sexy Red's, Glorilla's and Rubi Rose's exist. D1was speaking to Meek prison reform outreach right? Rappers can't have it both ways. You can not make statements that basically say what I talk about is real and then fall back on this is entertainment when it's convenient. Actors play pretend and at no point claim to be the people/characters they portray. There is a clear separation. Rappers literally live and die on their lyrics being thier lives. If Rappers said they are basically writing fictional stories based on the things around them or the world at large, they could fall back on it being just entertainment. Currently, that's not the case until they are facing RICO charges for 30 plus years.
Comparing hoe behavior to criminal acts isn't the same. Even if it were, Ruby Rose and Sexxy Red aren't taking part in hoe reform programs while creating music that potentially influences hoe behavior. Meek is creating music that potentially influences people to take part in criminal activity that leads to prison. At somepoint your message should go beyond prison sentences are unfair to what can I do to prevent people from going to jail. D1 doesn't need to know every detail of these men life. Yes, it's bullshit that Meek was basically a traffic ticket away from going to prison for shit that happened in his youth for years. However, Meeks behavior and music don't exactly reflect well for prison reform efforts. It makes people question why sentencing should be changed especially in areas where crime is said to climbing and getting worse. Let's take it off music. At somepoint, you have to change to not hurt the cause for the people who don't have rich, famous or powerful connections.
