Joe is a/b testing...full disclosure I don't really watch the show anymore.
I thought the kid was a good IDEA but maybe not THAT kid?
Because his father is a legend that is a VERY specific life experience. Which has a serious VALUE.
And I understand Joe thinking with the topics they discuss that would be helpful.
In PRACTICE it wasn't.
I don't like a bunch of old heads yelling at the youth twice a week claiming they KNOW what they think want and like.
And haveing a vocie of YOUTH injected occassionlaly in these discussions could be VERY beenfitial.
But I think they needed a more "regular" kid? What ever that means.
Or a kid you a more traditional upbringing?
Who was/is the target audience these corporations are obsessed with?
Joe is a/b testing...
I really wish he would do what he said he initially wanted to do
when the weather warms up - bring a couple strippers on the pod
let em hang on the balcony - have them come in and do a segment / mini interview
I do think some are pure....Folks like SAS (i know, i know i don't fuck with him either) and Bakari speak on major platforms and can't say the samething they can say on the major platform they are on....I know for a fact that's why Bakari started his podcast because he was constraint in what he can say on CNN.....
Hell even look at Unc....Unc can't say half the stuff he says on his podcast.....
I do think there are others (we saw it in this election) that are paid to push an agenda.....
Where ?That episode getting paywalled like episode 779
(Bootleg link still up)
Mind you, i was on here side until she said that shit. When yall right yall right.
She and Marc even flip were killing. She fk it all the way up.
I don't THINK - I KNOW this is the case.
I disagree with him completely
there are industry plants in podcasting just like people claim in anything else.
Not just based on sponsorship
just to get ON in a flooded marketplace.
MOST podcasters are talking sh*t giving hot takes being disingenuous cannibalizing each other regurgitating the same exact talking points and can't follow the most basic media ethics.
Maybe he needs to explain what he really means by "pure".
Maybe I misunderstood...Was he specifically talking about hip hop podcasts or podcasts in general.....Hip hop, probably disagree...Podcasts in general (covering a multitude of topics), I probably would agree.....
as I understood him?
He said podcast doesn't have a gatekeeper or a corporation PUSHING ideas and agendas
He is talking about HIMSELF but then said the INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE is pure
Podcast aren't controlled
That the industry can't CREATE a podcast.
He is wrong. Because he is conflating ease of entry into podcasting as some type of FREEDOM and claiming all podcast success is therefore "organic"
That is not true.
Agreed. Hip Hop industry definitely isn't pure....
I do think podcasting as a whole across all subject matters is still pure for the most part compared to other media outlets...
Rory and Mal some ungrateful motherfuckers lol
Episode 779
Umar talks over people like Joe. Marc ain't built like that. I wanna see Van Lathan go up there...lolI also think umar will wash him tho. If he doesnt let that real Marc out.
I think Marc is one of the few people that can come close to handling him (I actually think he can).
Marc can bring a different perspective though: he is married, has kids, and even taught at a HBCU...Not sure if I ever heard of him "grifting" anyone as well.
It's alot of quesitonable things with Umar. Talks a good game, but man he just always seems to be on BS all the time.....
Saw him for the first time speak at Power Talk and man he had me amped up with some of the things he was talking about.
![]()
Then he spoke at another event a month or 2 before Dick Gregory died and his speaking was cut short because Mr. Gregory went over his speaking time....It always rubbed me the wrong way because afterwards he went on IG talking about how the elders were trying to sabotage him and just doing alot of bitching....At the time, I am like bro you have more years to live. If the elders want to talk, let them talk....
Ironically, i think this is what Joe did. He didn't have a bunch of sponsors with Rory and Mal and he didn't change up his content. He built up his audience organically. Yes he was on other platforms (i first heard about the pod on Everyday struggle) but for the most part, he did it on his own platform.Honestly?
I think that time done passed.
As we saw with the election and even these hip hop blogs starting beefs and opening up old wounds...
there is a REASON for the RISE of that content.
And SOMEONE is funding it.
and it is HARD as hell to just get a podcast off the ground in 2025 and beyond with absolutely no support?
Van said Blade is a coon for killing vampires. I put him on time out for a minute lololUmar talks over people like Joe. Marc ain't built like that. I wanna see Van Lathan go up there...lol

Lol I guess he has a point.
But the higher up u go the less pure its get.
I think it would be interesting to see Dr. Umar on The pivot or debate someone like Taneheisi Coates. He doesn't raise his voice but he will pack you up and leave you on the side of the road.
@playahaitian Bo seems to getting bored with sports, this would be an interesting debate as well. Bo wouldn't do it because I think he would think Umar is beneath him.

Yeah..now you got Bomani out here asking for subscriptions. I would actually like to see all 3 of them do something on a bigger scale like the shop or the pivot. Not sports related. Michael Smith is boring to me. I watch him on brother from another and i dont know, he's a reporter, but he's just there. I like when Joel is a guest and I think he would be a good add to a show like that. Maybe it could be the three of them where they just sit down and they have guests and discuss various topics of the day. They wouldn't be able to do it on ESPN or nothing. Jemele and Bo could bring Idris on and they could dress up as Omar and Bro. Mouzone or something...Bo is frustrated and honestly I think so is Jemele and Michael.
They are way too smart for ALL this.
And see how Pablo did it and are envious.
Jemele and Michael reunion would be dope. Especially on a major streaming platform. As long as they didn't TRY to be progressive. Just be themselves. They don't need to hammer the audience with "woke" as it has been labeled. Just do them.
in an ideal world Bo would have kept his espn podcast and have it recorded and fully supported and funded. And Bo needed to do the other shows. Somehow keep the Evening Jones. And it would have been fine. The IDEA of the HBO show was good but he not that guy.
Umar IS beneath him. But as long as it's was all in fun? I could see it. But sadly I don't think Umar wants a friendly.
Now once a week Bo Jemele Michael talking sports and culture? With skits and interviews? That's the answer.
Facto^^^^
Put if you podding and no one listening and no sponsors?
That ain't "pure" thats just you talking.
Once MONEY gets involved?
It ain't never "pure" no more
