Ewing, Hakeem, admiral, kareem just to name a few.. powerfowards Malone, barkley, Oakley etc had jumpshots.. they actually had fundamentals.. nigs had post games, jumpshots, fadeaway, bank shots, knew how to pass… big men don’t even know how to post up now..they took the center position out the all star game cause that’s how garbage that position has become.. there literally 5 positions in basketball and the league got so garbage they got rid of 1 smh

Players are so much more skilled nowadays that Shaq has a segment making fun of things players do on the court and multiple superstars have received a pass and taken 5,6,7 steps without taking a single dribble. Players do some things today that would never have been done on the 90's because it would have been a travel everytime

That's because most teams have evolved their strategy for the 3 pointers. Back in the day it was more effective for mid range shots and most were not skilled enough for 3 pointers. Also old players will always talk shit about younger player "Back in my day". Shaq should not talk, he couldn't even shoot a fucking free throw all he had was his size and nothing else.
Players are not better, they're just more skilled now. This is what makes up for the God given talent you'd find in the 80's, and 90's.
Players in the past were more athletic but couldn't shoot like Shaq, Shawn Kemp and... etc. Players now are less athletic but can finesse a ball and shoot from the logo like ex Steph, Lilard, KD... etc
The league has changed in accordance because early Steph, Trae Young, and others wouldn't be able to have long careers dealing with the more aggressive play.

Shaq had size and was athletic. He also had post moves and footwork. Getting yourself a mid range shot takes more skill than taking a 3 pointer. To be a 3 point shooter you need to be a good shooter while getting and hitting a mid range shot takes the ability to not only hit the shot but also the ability to effectively break down a defender to get yourself space to take that shot.
Spacing in the current game is way better than it was in the 80s,90s and 00s which has led to more open 3 point shots. That could also be used to get players more opportunities in the mid range if teams wanted (which they don't)
