smart move by Jonah. He will always have comedies to fall back on but this is his second "Supporting" actor nomination in a semi serious movie. Jonah looking for the serious leading role and this move will only help him get there.
Like sports unions (NBA, etc)SAG sets minimum rates for actors and actors (based on the budget of the project)can also make 'cameo' performances.

Scale is not that much. For and actor it's about $600 for a 8 hour day.

not unusual when actors decide they want to work on a project that they'd normally be too expensive to be in.
Hes got alot of money, its not that deep for him. He probably wrote off mad money for even working for that little.
Just listened to the Howard Stern interview, and he said he would have sold his house to pay Scorsese to be in this film... That's love right there. Dude just truly wanted to be in a Scorsese flick because it was a dream of his..

What I posted is the feature film minimum wage. Low budget can be as low as $268 a day.
Either way, there's been several actors lately who've worked scale for various reasons. Mostly to build up their name in a different genre than they are known for.
