Who's the better (or your favorite) European electro studio band?

kraftwerk2_0.jpg

Kraftwerk (German pronunciation: [ˈkʀaftvɛʁk], meaning power plant or power station) is an influential electronic music band from Düsseldorf, Germany. The group was formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970, and was fronted by them until Schneider's departure in 2008. The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western Classical style of harmony, with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumentation. The group's simplified lyrics are at times sung through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software. Kraftwerk were one of the first groups to popularize electronic music and are considered pioneers in the field. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Kraftwerk's distinctive sound was revolutionary, and has had a lasting effect across many genres of modern music.

Art of Noise (also The Art of Noise) was an avant-garde synthpop group formed in 1983 by engineer/producer Gary Langan, programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley.[1] The group's mostly instrumental compositions were novel melodic sound collages based on digital sampler technology, which was new at the time. Inspired by turn-of-the-20th-century revolutions in music, the Art of Noise were initially packaged as a faceless anti- or non-group, blurring the distinction between the art and its creators. The band is noted for innovative use of electronics and computers in pop music and particularly for innovative use of sampling.

The name of the group alludes to the essay "The Art of Noises" by noted futurist Luigi Russolo. From the earliest releases on ZTT, the band referred to itself as both Art of Noise and The Art of Noise. Official and unofficial releases and press material use both versions.

I don't know man, this is a tough one. Numbers was the shit, but I used to get much ass off this shit.

Edit: ^^^Aw damn, I forgot about Tour de France.

I'll never forget the first time I heard Numbers. It was at a Halloween party in 1980. A tune that I would never forget. It's a tough choice between the two but I'm going with Kraftwerk.

We are showing our age fellas! This was hot in the 80's and everyone had these 33's or 45's! Every party, radio station, skating rink, played Art of Noise or Kraftwerk.
Takes me back.....

Both are great but I'd say Kraftwerk...they had a few years of work before Art of Noise hit the scene although "Moments in Love" is probably one of the greatest songs ever produced.

Kraftwerk all the way. I love AON ("Beatbox" was THE shit when it dropped), but without KW, there would be no Art of Noise. Computer World captured my pre-teen imagination with their themes dealing with technology. Trans Europe Express & Tour De France still gets heavy rotation from me.

There's a documentary about them on Youtube (Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution), it's worth checking out for fans who haven't seen it.

Kraftwerk

I've got vinyl versions of kraftwerk, trans Europe express, Tour de force (german and French version), boing boom tsack (or whatever the fuck), music non stop. Got all this shit as it was happening.

Art of noise i have the beat box 12 inches, which inludes the remix. Moments in love is on the flip side of the beat box 12 inch. The remix of beat box is rare as shit, has a bass guitar intro and some string melodies. Plain truth, Art of noise doesn't even come close.

End of.

Kraftwerk was more experimental. Gotta give props to people who take a chance when there's little to base your work off of.

art of noise had far more hits

Nah, This is true. If you listen the album, which I do on my iphone on a very regular basis, the whole album has many hits. But, still you can't compare these too hit songs. They were two totally different party modes. This is evident by the the dances formed from each. Also, both of these are the short version, you can't tell how much each of them expand from these samples.
