Hi-Five Lead Singer Tony Thompson Found Dead

Hi-Five lead singer Tony Thompson was found dead yesterday (June 1) in his hometown of Waco, Texas.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that Thompson's body was found outside of an apartment complex around 10:00 pm.

He allegedly died of drug overdose, but the cause of death has to be confirmed.

Thompson and Hi-Five hit #1 with 1990's "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)," which was produced by R&B/Hip-Hop producer Teddy Riley and taken from the group's debut, Hi-Five.

The album also produced singles like "I Can't Wait Another Minute" and "I Just Can't Handle It."

Hi-Five broke up around 1994 but reunited and released a new album The Return in 2006 on Thompson's record label N'Depth.

Thompson also collaborated with Port Arthur, Texas rapper Bun-B on his 2006 single "Rock Ya Body," which was produced by Play-N-Skillz.

Thompson, was working on new material for an upcoming album as well.

Hi-Five was the ish back in the day, for the lil time they were around. I remember being in Germany when they came out.

Why do so many artists that have one time fame, usually end up overdosing on drugs?
I guess stardom fucks with your mind.

Imo, I think they have a hard time being on top and taking that dive. They are no longer popular, the money is no longer there, and its like going from rags to riches back to rags again. It's like you were so close to making it, and they turn to drugs to ease the pain. Again just my opinion on it.

Myth. Your broke-ass next door neighbor is more likely to OD than some "star." Go to your local emergency room on any given night and check-out the drug overdose cases. No "stars" there.

(People like to get high on drugs and alcohol. It's very "human" to want to escape reality, whether its with substances, religion, "rap" or whatever. Some suffer from long-term addiction and others just go fatally far on occasion.)

If he's the one in the group I'm thinking about, I knew his sister back in the day. She was good people and really proud of him. Here's hoping they're doing well during this time of loss.

R.I.P.
