It's one of those things where you hear something new, and it blows your mind. That's why it's hard to compare eras. JDL from Cold Crush was THE man to me, and then I heard "Rap's New Language" by The Treacherous 3 and Spoonie, and that fucked me up. And then I heard DLB & Tito on "Fearless Freestyle" by the Fearless Four. That fucked me up! And then I heard Rakim and Kane, and THAT fucked me up, and so on.

Perhaps to you but not to me. I've heard all of that and more so I'm not in reference to something new to my earhole - after all these guys were at the top 20 or 30 years ago. I'm considering all the rappers I've heard over time, and from a distance, and to me nobody checked as many boxes as Chuck. YMMV.

Ok now you back on point

Happy you had some blueberry muffin

Sidebar... you also dissed Primo production Uncle Chuck, let's just leave that right there.

This is why all these so called debates are absurd

Sports, music, etc

The eras matter.

Rakim besides being the god MC not cursing super lyrical storyteller etc

He BIRTHED a completely new flow that MCs still use as a template today.

That's like creating the damn printing press of hip hop

How are you going to COMPARE him to anyone?

But then isn't KRS the greatest.

And it's to the point Chuck is so forgotten in these debates that anyone who brings him up looks like a rap nerd trying to hard. Instead of making sure a legend and pioneer isn't forgotten.

I ain't gonna defend Big I've done that for years and no one credible has been able to dispute his legacy as an all time great.

Also Rakim, Chuck, KRS, Nas, Jay, Cube all LOVED BIG.

So their opinion don't count?

Sidebar: Mel is on that bullsh*t, sorry legend that was irrational hate.

My ONLY issue is this....

Why you come into a dead black man birthday celebration thread to sh*t on his legacy?

I don't care if Biggie was wack...

What is someone who does that?

Chuck is so damn under appreciated

His ability to flow on those Bomb Squad beats?

The vocabulary? The content? The FORCE?

And I will NEVER EVER HATE on Mr. Chuck.

But he will tell you himself he couldn't flip flows like that. And that matters. The ability to make ANY record.

This is why I hate these debates cause I cannot reduce or dissect negatively this legend.

But like I said Chuck would tell you this himself

It's not even fair these are COMPLETELY different eras. COMPLETELY.

Sidebar...

Talking about generations?

Shouldn't KRS, LL and Busta be considered not mount Rushmore

but the Parthenon of MCs?

Until I hear Chuck say it himself I can't say he could or couldn't "flip flows" (whatever that means). He (Chuck) had a purpose and a message in his raps and he didn't deviate from it so until/unless he does we'll never know. He didn't do love songs or talk about negative images like killing each other over sneakers or trying to fuck other guys' women. That alone to me elevates him over any rapper who did. We don't have enough negative images about us already that we need more?

As for different eras, you're right of course. Very hard to compare because once gangsta rap came in the door, quality Rap itself went out the window IMO.
Yes, it was exciting and new at the time but the content for the most part was terrible. And Rap has devolved from there until what we have now which is...I'm not sure exactly but it sucks as far as I'm concerned.

Understand I'm talking about lyrics and flow, NOT beats because a killer beat can hide many inadiqicies in a rapper. And so we come to KRS1. I've never been that impressed with him. He's okay but his flow is very uneven and when you break down his lyrics they tend to be nonsensical for the most part. But he was in the right place with the right content at the right time and I ain't mad at him.

I'd definitely have to put LL on Mt Rushmore of Rap. From My Radio on he went hard as fuck even though lots of people looked at him as a pretty boy. Not Busta. Didn't do enough. Maybe KRS1 but I doubt it.

I'll have to think about it. I'd probably like to put Kool Kieth and the Ultras up there because they changed Rap but they don't have enough material. Rakim should be up there. And although I hate their stuff NWA because they changed the entire INDUSTRY let alone genre. And Run-DMC because they crossed over and brought Rap mainstream.

And no room for my favorite, P.E..

I respect your opinion bro very well thought out and specific

Bro. You literally don't know what you are talking about. It is not even an insult. It is a fact.
You don't know about music, rap, east vs west. Nothing.

I don' get it. Biggie was aiiight. He only had 1 album when he lived, a few after he died. His topic matters were basically pussy, money, killing and getting high. Not trying to hate but why celebrate him like his catalog, body of work, rap / cultural influence was on some next level shit? Most of biggies rap peers have exceeded him in all the categories I mentioned. and fuck it, ima say it... it was a dumb ass move taking his ass out to cali when that east/west coast shit was poppin off. Not hating, just don't understand the desire to elevate Biggie in death when in life, he was ok with a nice buzz. As far as Lil Cease and Kim? If they ain't talking about biggie, they don't have shit to say. Clearly their still keeping themselves attached to biggies shine to stay relevant.

how did you get to this conclusion. If anyone wanted to get puff, they had plenty of chances to do so. I mean, who in cali wanted Puff dead? and why they never stopped?

I was a JDL stan back in the day too.
Truthfully, Caz was nicer. But JDL just had the "it" factor.

Puff is 98% the reason Big got killed. I'll never let that feeling slide. Big had no business in Cali at that time. I'll never forget finding out he was there. Me and my friends was like What!!?? Why!!?? If a couple of project kids not in the situation know it's not the right time, you can't tell me Puff didn't.

I'm sure the checks he's gettting off this publishing is causing him to lose sleep. it may be a shitty song to you and i, but the millions who make it worthwhile, neither sting or puff losing sleep. When I hear weak song collaborations, I think publishing aka $$$$. what do you think about?

Yeah this is a great reason on why I think sometimes real impactful artists get lost in time due to them getting their style/skill jacked or become commonplace. It takes away what they contributed overall at times.
