I took a trip Friday only to return on Sunday and be told by my sister that someone put 8 small magnets on the outside of my gas door. I asked around and no one has any recollection, but from my memory magnets on your gas tank will somehow create a spark and blow up a vehicle.
I seem to remember reading this in an anarchist cookbook or something simular to it.

The magnets were not very strong and lined up on the small door that you must open to access the gas cap. I purchased a locking cap today just incase someone decides to wisen up. It seems like an attempt from a scorned women that misread the instructions to the "magnet bomb." I believe the magnet actually goes under the car on the gas tank. If this sounds familiar to anyone any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

If it was so simple to blow up a car

1 Iraqis would be doing so, instead of making real bombs
2 NoOne could have ANY speakers in their cars, That means No Sub Woofers in the trunk
3 Cars would be blowing up from this all the time and NoOne would use them any more
4 It would used in the movies at least once

This just sounds so stupid

Only way a magnet can create a spark is to strike them together extremely hard. there is no way a simple magnet alone can blow up your car. It doesn't put out electricity. Fuck your car up yes but not by putting it on the gas door.
 
the only thing magnets will do being attached to a gas tank is supposedly something to the gas which will give you a little better gas mileage. but a strong magnet not some little ones.

WTF you talkin about??? Thas bullshit, why the fuck would something that can be done by a fuckin 2 year old be so deadly and destructive??!? Do you realize instead of people keying and painting and busting out your windows they would just attach a magnet to your gas door instead........you couldn't be serious about this???:angry:
 
A magnet is not going to do anything to cause an explosion. Magnets are commonly used in automotive engines for example oil pan drain plugs or the plugs on an automatic transmissions. The magnets are used to attract metallic particles in the engine's oil or transmission fluid. The is done to keep the particles from causing wear or damage to internal components.
 
Like I said before, I thought I read something in the anarchist cookbook about this. I am aware that there are magnets in the oil pan and speakers, but a magnet placed on your GAS TANK or DOOR is another animal. I asked a question, not trying to spread a rumor or tell cats how to blow up their baby mamas. Just trying to watch my back. Did you take chemistry in college? I'm not being funny or anything, but if you notice at gas stations they tell you to get off the phone while fueling. The reason is the electromagnetic radiation could create a spark and cause a flash fire.It's rare, but it could happen.

i heard something like it has something to do with static electricity. when the gas is flowing thru the metal fuel nozzle there is static electricity building up. they said that if the nozzle is not touching one of the metal sides of the tank there could be a static discharge. at least i heard that long ago. i am sure the modern gas pumps are properly grounded.:rolleyes:

are you sure that you ride is not such a pile of shit that the magnets were put there to keep the flap shut?

COSIGN this is bogus info. Magnets could/might mess up your computer in the car. But they would have to be pretty strong and in the right places.
