MC Eiht breaks down the real on why Pac sonned the Hughes Brothers

2pac had out one album and had been in two movies at that pint he was nowhere near an Icon.

Also while Pac have talent he was never even in his best role on the level of an actor like Denzel.

Maybe not iconic status as we know him today but then he was still a big deal. Pac was at the beginning of his fame and was being highly sought after. He had just released his second album and was in poetic justice the same time Menace was out.

I didn't say he was on the level of Denzel in acting talent I was speaking in terms of status. 2pac has a fanbase, he was a bigger draw than any of the other actors in that film. He was a popular music artist. Hughes bro's knew that. The falling out is a common conflict with actors vs directors.

What do you think that all kinds of shit was? lol

That nigga was prolly just like O-Dog at some point.

Too me that was all i needed to know about the Sharif character.

as you quoted..."I haven't watched the flick in a minute"...so I stand corrected...I wouldn't go so far as to say o-dog status tho

People in this thread are trying minimize just how ubiquitous Pac's name was at the time.

And I agree with the sentiment of Marlon Wayans saying Bishop was the greatest bad guy ever played until finally seeing Denzel in Training Day.

I don't believe Pac to be one-demensional in that regard. He would have done what was necessary in subtle changes for a convincing portrayal of O-Dogg.

Truth be told I think the roles Pac would have excelled in would have been either Kane or Shariff.

Nobody would have played O-Dogg better than Larenz, he owned that role I can't think if anyone who would have topped that.

Probably a debate for another thread. I think Larenz killed that role precisely because he didn't look like a "killer" or somebody trying to be "hard." He looked and acted like a regular teenager until those occasions where he snapped (Korean grocer, crackhead with burger, etc.).

Cosign....he looked and acted like the shottas everybody knows from the neighborhood....not the Hollywood styled extra testosterone bad guys...its an insult to Tate to suggest that Pac would have killed that role....ultimately everything worked out for everybody....Menace is a classic....Hughes Brother got their career cemented and Pac is Pac, a fucking legend so well known that his accomplishments don't need to be explained

It's hard to see that now and easy to say because Larenz Tate gave us O-dogg and it was great. If somehow we could erase his performance and put Pac in there I believe you would've had a more powerful O-dogg who would've had more range.

But if they did add a 2 min flashback to Shariff's character, or a backstory, or couple of extra sentences in the classroom to explain what propelled him into that life. You would've had a more developed character of Shariff and the movie would've come out a little better IMO. It could've added some positivity to the movie that was devoid of it with his death at the end.

When I think of Shariff I remember him in Stacy's car trying to get him to play his tape. "Man you know that shit gets no play in the whip":lol:

Years later when I finally was old enough to drive and was able to afford a car I used to say that shit to everybody just cause

Thats the thing Pac hadn't developed that range yet IMO.

If you really look at Poetic Justice a lot of his acting flaws were exposed in that movie. I believe he had started to turn a corner when he passed and had started taking diverse roles so I think he would have developed that range and becone great but I don't think he was there yet and definitely not around the time Menacr was filmed.

In Juice he didn't have the range yet. I think he started learning it in Poetic Justice but I think Larenz was O-dogg and that if they gave a little bit more to Shariff for Pac to play would've given us a better movie. Even though I still like that movie it just would've been a better finished product.

When have braids ever gone out if style with us?

Braids may go in and out of style with other races/cultures, and there may be periods where they are more popular than normal but our people always rock braids regardless of the current trends.
Thank you.

No different than waves. It's part of our identity.

I can't believe people are really saying give more to the Shariff character (back story) just to fit this nigga Pacs needs! The movie is a fucking classic! Without 2Pac in it, without some back story on why Shariff is different from his friends.

I personally don't care for men with long hair....its just not attractive to me. Plus, braids on old men is just not cool.

Eiht was old when I was a kid.

That shit is blowing mine fam. It's like dudes are trying to say they fuck with Pac so they would have liked the movie more if he was in it, with out actually just coming out and saying those words.

these last 2 interviews I've listened to from eiht made me realize how much of a wannabe gangster pac was...fake ones always have something to prove

Pac wasn't about that life. I was a teenager back when he was gunned down. As an adult, now I realized he was he was going through his stupid nigga confused emo stage. We talking about someone whose career was at it's peak from 20-25 years old.

I remember 1993. Movie was fine without Pac. Pac was still in gangster transition mode at that time. Did pac say they were no Muslim gang bangers? We had them in Cleveland at the time, so maybe it was just pac talking shit.

Makes sense to me. Show why he became a muslim because clearly he hung around nothing but gangster's every single person he knew and hung with was in the life and he just stuck out as a muslim preaching peace. There's no way he would have associated with those dudes if he hadn't been about that life before.

Made sense
The scene with cain and shariffa father explained his pass and why he turned muslim

Agreed,
Larenz was perfect for that role and made it memorable.
Not taking anything away from Tyrin Thomas who was very good in his portrayal as Caine but I think Tupac would've been best casted as the lead character Caineand would've made it a bit more interesting, or more compelling .
In addition to that I think the love spark between Caine and Ronnie played by Jada Pinkett would've been amped up to a degree
since Tupac and Jada were actually in a real relationship while in high school.

I can relate to both characters...I was the "square" in comparison to the other dudes I rolled w/ and what they were about...but we grew up together so I didn't look @ them funny and vice versa...sometimes I had the sense to pull back and chill...other times they'd straight up say this ain't for you...you need to sit this one out...but ya I didn't see sharif hanging out w/ them as something that needed to be questioned or explained w/ a flashback...growing up in a black neighborhood many ppl would understood the dynamics of their relationship

isn't there someone like this in every hood though? I think Sharif character was perfect no flashbacks needed i kinda put my own story to that character.

You couldnt tell that 20 yrs ago?????

I been following Pac since day one and As Much as I always liked Pac I could personally see through the fake thug act, Don't see why other couldn't??? First your background dancer then your a black militant, then as soon as you finally play a character in a movie it's all of a sudden THUG LIFE! Folks back then said after the Movie Juice, Pac all of a sudden was the guy not to fuck with! Before then it was fuck the white man and keep your head up! then he rapes a chick goes to prison and gets raped, Comes home and know it's M.O.B Piru and we ride on ninjas :dunno: Yeah Okay?

I knew that Biggie/Pac beef was fake you could see right through it the whole time. Pac used that fake beef for record sales. Ultimately it got him killed. Any cat that's been in the streets knows if someone sets you up and tries to kill you, knows what to do? and it's not go make a song about them.

I used tell my homie who used to swear Pac was the biggest thug ever, If Biggie set this dude up and your reaction is to make a song??? Then obviously as Pac says Biggie and Puffy are the real thorough breeds that can can get a Ninja touched in they city. Pac? not so much. So who really living the thug life? LOL that shit made Pac look weak IMO.

Thug life left a lot of Brothers out here misguided and confused after pacs death (Blind Leading the Blind) Just think if Pac used his 15 minutes for real social change :dunno:

It was Suge's influence that brought the "thug life" persona to fruition, though. Suge had that influence on a number of people, like Snoop, Dre, and DeVante from Jodeci, amongst others. Remember Snoop used to have a Special Ed haircut and called himself Snooper Dooper. And even Eazy said that Dre didn't really start getting into fights and legal trouble until he started hanging around Suge.
