Agreed. I tried going veggie back in high school - around 10th grade or so. Only lasted about 6 months though, as I was missing the regular meals that I was used to, and burning off way too much energy & calories. Was doing a sports leadership program, going to basketball & soccer practices, working out & playing streetball (and going for latenight runs too). Sometimes would leave the house around 6 - 6:30am and get home by 9 - 10pm. Don't think I was getting enough nutrition even then ... just off a standard diet. Wasn't snacking or hydrating enough considering all the sporting activities. Looking back that schedule was crazy.

As for brother ... he's pretty good about getting his greens (spinach & salads), and seems like he relies heavily on chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans, lentils, etc. He said he had thought about going vegan, but he likes cereal & having cheese with sandwiches or other meals like lasagna, wraps, quesadillas, burritos, etc. Been on vacation with him a few times the past 10 years and people would often ask him IF he felt like there would be enough meal-time options for him at restaurants. He's always made it work. Has been able to maintain his weight and strength. He mostly does weights & runs.

He got any recipes you can drop here? Just need to know how he does it.

Just seems like being active on a vegetarian diet is difficult. Not that it cant be done but got damn, you’d have to constantly be eating.

I hear you. I give him credit for the dietary adherence for a quarter century already. He doesn’t have any recipes offhand. He more so just wings it with familiar ingredients. I got better about that this past year. Bought more chicken and ground beef and made big
batches of chili and soup during the colder months. We were liking that at home. He lives near Alberta. We’re out in BC.
Another perk is getting some meals free at work. Helps save on grocery bills, being able to eat lighter when at home.

fucking love the beyond meat burger..particularly the A&W burger

sodium content is high though and like any other fast food, its loaded with processed ingredients so moderation is key.
my go to "cheat" meal nowadays is the beyond meat burger in a lettuce wrap (instead of a bun) and some sweet potato fries...

gives me a lil more options once in awhile since I'm pescetarian and haven't eaten meat for 7 years now. Shit is way better than old school "Veggie" patties that were primarily soy based.

still rather go with black bean based veggie patties when we make them at home or eat at restaurants..

It amazes me to hear meat eaters rail against plant based foods when cattle and fowl eat nothing but plants and plant bi-products. Maybe they know something we don't.
As a vegetarian for decades when asked why I am my response is always "I have nothing against meat itself; my beef with it (pun intended) is what is done to it by meat and poultry packers who inject their products with steroids, growth hormones and other substances proven to be detrimental to human health". :hmm:

Isn’t the point of the Beyond Burger and meatless substitutions, the fact Red Meat causes a rise in cancer by 21%??? Yes it may have a ton of sodium and fat but you don’t get that trigger that fucks with your cells like red meat. THAT is what makes it a better alternative. I haven’t eaten beef in 5 months now. I feel so much better. Also a Beyond burger is good when cooked right. Wheat bread, Avocado, thousand Island tomato and red pinion is the god damn shit.

I am NOT vegetarian but I am REALLY making a serious effort to eat HEALTHIER overall my family included...

I don't like this backlash to a meat alternative.

OF COURSE we need FACTS and we do NOT want people (sheeple) thinking oh PERFECT I can eat this EVER DAY and be fine.

Because unfortunately... that is the society we live in

But I think its a positive alternative and healthy

but like ANYTHING?

MODERATION and BALANCED DIET is key no matter what you eat.

Man I used to love meat, burgers, steaks, grilled chicken etc. I boxed, played football, powerlifted and had the mindset that I need meat for protein and could never fathom not eating meat. But I made the decision to cut it for health reasons, felt much better once I stopped and never looked back. My wife decided to eat the same way too just for support and because she said she didn't wanna be all up in my face eating a hamburger while I'm staying away from meat-- she'll have some oxtail or jerk every once in a blue moon on her own. but we both identify as pescetarians...if we have kids we will feed them a balanced diet and eat what we eat until they can cook for their damn selves lol.

For me it wasn't too hard since my diet was already pretty clean and I would go on a fast every six weeks. But for somebody wanting to start that diet, I would recommend to just start small at first, try having one meatless meal in the week, then eventually once a day...see how you feel, and gradually incorporating more meals. plan ahead for exactly how long you wanna follow the diet for and know what you are gonna eat...eventually it will get easier and become second nature.

The Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth
I remember you making the post about giving up meat, glad that you staying consistent and feeling good.

Yeah man, Pops raised y'all right...I had some uncles and Aunts that were rastas and they showed me a lot of meatless alternatives and schooled me on the importance of greens and the uncleanliness of pork etc.
Most of our friends and family are health concious and easily accomodate us when we come over for dinner or choose restaurants to meet up . Diet is second nature to me now, and I'm in better shape, maintained my strength, muscle, lost fat and feel more energized.

YouTube is your friend... Shitload of recipes and different styles of cooking... People don't realize you can cook a chicken over 1000 ways same with fish etc... Juss pick a meat or two you like ...like bird and seafood than learn a bunch of recipes for each 1.. You could literally eat a diff dish each day for over a yr without eating the same thing twice... That comes in handy if you or your wife know how to cook... If ya don't well juss find certain things ya like and eat more of it... Since Dec I prob ate beef prob 10 times (that number is that high cause of summer bbqs) and prob pork 5 times outside of that bird and seafood...I'm a carnivore never giving up meat but I can stop eating certain meats like beef/pork or eat it on rare occasions... I know ever since I cut down my beef intake any time I consume it , it immediately runs through me within 2 hrs or less

Don’t eat pork but I noticed that about beef too. It’s real hard on the body and poisonous ☠️ but I’ve been craving it so I got some ribeyes
