Most NBA players in recent years aren't from the hood? No more hoop dreams?

Facts. Before we played each other at the park or gym, steel sharpening steel. Now these new kids don’t play pick up games, they only work out with their trainers and play in tourneys smh. So if you don’t have trainer money and a OG to scoop u up and sponsor u or train you himself, you become a park n rec legend

AAU team scoop players up. Ain’t nobody out here with some talent not on an AAU team. Basketball is a very dirty sport and controlled. The days of Willie hooping down the street and he all world and no one knows him is over. Just like Zion will sign with Nike because he went to a Nike school/Duke that had him signed to a Nike AAU team. Fuck the ncaa

You also have a greater influx of international players. You've got people like Masai Ujiri making it a goal to find talent SPECIFICALLY from the African continent, and other NBA management execs scouring the globe. The NBA has always had its fair share of international players, but through the 90's into the new millennium, its grown from 5% to 25% of international players.

International talent and Kids of Pro athletes have taken away the spots for the hood kids making hoop dreams even more of a pipe dream, hood kids have better shot of going soundcloud rapper route now to make it out than hoops

Bring back the hood players. Basketball is turning into a metrosexual fashion show in the US. How the Philippines hoop culture get more raw and urban than US

Yeah ain't too many "Allen Iverson" type stories in recent years. The best players in the country don't even go to public school anymore. Year round camps, aau circuit and personal trainers is hella expensive.

It also makes you think are the best basketball talent not coming from the hoods anymore? Cause in soccer, the best talent still are as The Banlieues of Paris have produced the most elite talent in recent years

They take the kids from there at a young age, put them in prep schools and make them professional soccer players by 14.

On one end, its great that more Black people are doing well,

on the other end, basketball has turned into a club sport that requires TONS of developmental, training cash.

Whats weird is that i dont see that many polished players when I watch NCAA games... Specially this year its been horrible.

The same can be said about the NBA. Not too many polished players. These boys are just running and gunning. Trae Young is nice but no way in hell he would be an All Star much less a starter 15/20 years ago.
