.....so I saw a post on Facebook and goddammit, it never occurred to me. Perhaps Robert Downey Jr's casting as Doctor Doom was the plan all along. If you read the lyrics to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" it's all right there...... my notes in red text.

"Iron Man"

I am Iron Man (the iconic line from the first Iron Man film)

Has he lost his mind? (referencing how this super hero has now gone mad/bad)
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?

Is he alive or dead? (Tony Stark died saving the universe by snapping away Thanos in Endgame. The world knows of Tony's sacrifice, so seeing him alive again would cause confusion)
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel (did Doctor Doom not fuse/turn into metal?)
In the great magnetic field
When he traveled time
For the future of mankind (a variant of Tony Stark perhaps tried to save the universe through time and failed, causing his fusion with metal in the "magnetic field, causing him to go mad.)

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfurl

Now the time is here
For Iron Man to spread fear (Once a beloved hero, now he's the villain)
Vengeance from the grave (he died in Endgame, now he's (variant) back with a vengeance)
Kills the people he once saved (see above)

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fill his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again! (bookends Tony Stark's story. He goes from hero to villain, dead to alive)

It is not yet known whether Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers, Johnny Storm, or take on an altogether new character.

Chris Evans is planning an MCU homecoming.

The actor best known to Marvel fans as Steve "Captain America" Rogers is apparently returning for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, The Wrap reports.

It is currently unknown if Evans will reprise his role as Rogers, his earlier pre-MCU role as Johnny Storm, also known as the Fantastic Four's Human Torch, or whether he'll appear in a brand new role.

Reps for Evans and Marvel did not respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

Evans' first big break was the original Fantastic Four film, which, when released in 2005, transformed him from a rising star of teen sex comedies and independent dramas to a sought after heartthrob and box office asset.

He reprised his role as Johnny Storm two years later in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Though he continued taking on parts in original, independent fare like Danny Boyle's Sunshine and Rian Johnson's Knives Out, he never quite shook that first case of comic adaptation fever.

Robert Downey Jr. reveals how Kevin Feige convinced him to play Dr. Doom — and his big fear returning to MCU

Evans appeared as Steve Rogers/Captain America for the first time in 2011. He's since starred in five additional Marvel films, and has made cameos in four others for the company.

His character was deputized with the responsibility of returning the Infinity Stones to their past timelines at the end of Avengers: Endgame, his last appearance as Steve Rogers. The character is supposed to return to the present, but decides to find his lost love Peggy Carter, and remain with her in the past.

That means, assuming Avengers: Doomsday takes place in the present, an octogenarian Captain America might not make the most sense as a vehicle for Evans' big return. The actor's recent cameo as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine may tip the odds of a reprisal in that character's favor, but Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn has already been cast as the MCU's new Human Torch.
