That Grande chick got some pipes on her. Don't know about Erivo. I don't even know if she'll be required to sing or she'll be dubbed.

Michelle Yeoh didn't become the first Asian woman to win a Best Actress Oscar by playing it safe.
She's fought crouching tigers and hidden dragons, traversed the multiverse, and explored the final frontier. But singing in a musical? Yeoh calls that a risk.

In an interview at the Fifth Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival in Fukuoka, Japan, Yeoh discussed taking on the role of Madame Morrible in the upcoming adaptation of the beloved musical Wicked.

"I'm trying something new right now — filming Jon Chu's Wicked movie, which will be my first musical," Yeoh said. "It's very exciting, and I can't wait for you all to see it. It was a risk, but you will never know which doors will open for you unless you try them all."
Yeoh previously worked with Chu on Crazy Rich Asians. And though Wicked is her first musical, Yeoh did show off some of her vocal chops in Everything Everywhere All at Once, playing, among many other roles, a Peking opera star.
In the Wicked musical, Madame Morrible is the headmistress of Shiz University, the magical alma mater of Glinda (who'll be played by Ariana Grande in the film) and Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo). Yeoh be following in the evil steps of past Madames Morrible such as Rue McClanahan, Carol Kane, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Wicked, which will be divided into two films, will premiere its first part on Christmas Day 2024 and its second on Christmas Day 2025.

Something thrilling is happening in Oz...

Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) will voice Dr. Dillamond in the big-screen adaptation of Wicked, Universal announced Wednesday afternoon at CinemaCon.

Dr. Dillamond, a goat who teaches Elphaba history at Shiz University, has a small but crucial role in Wicked. He is the first to tell Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) of rising dark forces threatening the speaking animals of Oz, including himself. He sings the song "Something Bad" to detail the ominous signs to her, struggling to maintain control over his speech with his "bads" erupting into sudden bleats.

Dinklage has extended credits on both stage and screen, but it is rare to see him sign on for a musical. Though he did star as the title character in a musicalized version of Cyrano de Bergerac called simply Cyrano.

Many on the internet have speculated about who might play Dr. Dillamond, with many citing his absence from casting notices and the first teaser trailer released during the Super Bowl. Some even posited that the character might have been cut from the film.

Wicked, based on the smash-hit musical of the same name, tells the tale of two witches of Oz, Elphaba, who will become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda (Ariana Grande), originally named Galinda. A prequel to The Wizard of Oz and based on the book by Gregory Maguire, Wicked charts the unlikely friendship between the two women as magic, love, and the future of Oz hang in the balance.

"This movie has everything: giant musical numbers, big action pieces. And using a classic story you all know, the Wizard of Oz," director Jon M. Chu teased at the 2023 CinemaCon. "And at the end of the day, it's actually not about those things. It's about change and [how] it's necessary for things to get better."

Wicked will be divided into two films. Part One is scheduled to fly into theaters on Nov. 27 (Part Two will come Nov. 26, 2025).
