It’ll be worth the watch based on the wick series alone. Long as the action scenes are on point it’ll be good. Oh and the heroine has got to get her ass whooped or it won’t be believable

Anjelica Huston has pirouetted back into the world of John Wick, joining the cast of Ballerina, Lionsgate’s spinoff set in the world of the Keanu Reeves action franchise.
Production is already underway on the feature that is being toplined by Ana de Armas and directed by Len Wiseman.
Shay Hatten wrote the script and the plot involves a young woman (de Armas) with killer skills who uses said skills to get revenge when her family is killed by hitmen.
Huston is reprising her role as The Director, the head of the Ruska Roma crime organization. She appeared in John Wick 3 – Parabellum in a chewy scene with lines such as “You honor me by bringing death to my front door?” as beleaguered hitman Wick came to her for help. Among her skills is training young dancers to learn that art is suffering while also training young fighters to roll with the flips.

Huston isn’t the only Wick vet back on the call sheet. Ian McShane is reprising his role as Winston, manager of the Continental, the fan-favorite hotel for assassins with its own set of rules and severe consequences for breaking them.
“The idea of Ballerina was formed around the scenes with Anjelica in John Wick 3,” said Erica Lee, who is producing the project along with Basil Iwanyk and Chad Stahelski. “Anjelica Huston is an icon and is nothing less than Hollywood royalty. The world of Wick is always made richer by her commanding screen presence.”
Huston, whose mother was a ballerina (her father was director John Huston), has spent the last several years focused on voice work, acting as the narrator for Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and working on shows such as American Dad and BoJack Horseman. She did star opposite Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp in 2020’s World War II drama, Waiting for Anya.

Baba Yaga faithfuls have a longer wait before they see the John Wick spinoff Ballerina on the big screen, but CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas on Wednesday not only received an early first look at Ana de Armas in the titular role, but also her character's meeting with Keanu Reeves' gun-fu assassin.

"How do I start doing what you do?" Armas' assassin named Rooney, a former ballerina, asks Reeves' John Wick in the footage, which Lionsgate has not released online for public viewing as of yet.

"Looks like you already have," he replies, his face alone triggering excited hoots and hollers from the CinemaCon audience.

Set between the events of the third and fourth John Wick films, Ballerina stars Armas as an assassin trained in the tradition of the Ruska Roma, one of the 12 international criminal organizations that holds a seat at the High Table in John Wick lore. Anjelica Huston returns as the Director in the footage to remark of Rooney, "Your childhood was taken from you.... There is an anger in you. You seek vengeance upon those who harmed you."

Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick make return appearances as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, and Charon, the hotel's concierge.

The CinemaCon crowd went wild for the reveal of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus in character, who warns Rooney, "You have no idea what you just walked into."

Directed by Len Wiseman and produced by franchise veterans Chad Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Ballerina promises to have a lot of the great action set pieces that have made John Wick so popular. The footage showed flashes of Rooney tearing into enemies with blades in close-corner combat, and later leaping on the back of a truck to fire a flamethrower at the driver through the window.

With the delayed release to June 6, 2025, Lionsgate motion picture group chair Adam Fogelson said "the filmmakers were given the opportunity to add significant set pieces to the film." And they are doing that work as we speak.

the whole hollywood is getting a change. signs of the times bro. signs of the times. all movies are getting diversified and everyone is getting represented...i first noticed it when the last double 007 was a female. so just get to used to the idea that one of these days that your next favorite action movie star is gonna either be a female, or an LGB...and hollywood as we all know has run out of ideas...so they're remaking all the old movies with non white females starring in the lead roles or a full blown LGB...
