Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
2024

5.5/10

I watched this one tonight at home.

Being in the last person on the forum, no need to go into it.

The film pretty much follows the same premise as the 3 prior films. Eddie does his usual routine with the character. What’s interesting about him doing it is midway in the movie, he starts out doing his routine and abruptly cuts himself off and states “I’m Tired” and acts normally. He doesn’t do his usual routine after.

Some of the characters from prior films debut. Everyone looks old. It throws off the film with their ages because technically everyone should be retired being the franchise started in 1986. If Axel is still in law enforcement, he should be retired in this film and working as a Private Investigator. No way he should be a street detective after 30+ years on the job.

We discover he has a daughter and was married. They give an explanation on why we never knew of their existence. This plot answers the question of whether Axel was gay being he was never shown to be romantic in the prior 3 films.

The film ended looking like it’s the official end to the Axel character. I doubt any more films will be made.

The movie falls in the category “Watch It Once, No Interest In Watching Again”.

Synopsis

In Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Detective Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter's life is threatened. Foley teams up with his daughter, a new partner, and old friends Billy Rosewood and John Taggart to uncover a conspiracy. The movie includes callbacks to the original film, including a scene where Axel pretends to be a Rolling Stone reporter to bluff his way through check-in at the Beverly Palms Hotel.

The Six Triple Eight

I will give Tyler Perry praise for bringing an unknown chapter about black women in the military during World War II to the forefront. The standout performances and characters are Lena Derriecott King portrayed by Ebony Obsidian and Major Charity Adams portrayed by Kerry Washington. The racism the women faced and the task of trying to sort and deliver undelivered mail from families, wives and fiances are displayed in an involving way. Perry blends in some moving moments as the movie plays out.
The other characters from the Battalion are sidelined for the most part, their backgrounds are just touched on and they make exclamations about this or that. Knowing what Perry leans into in his movies there was a story thread that was predictable right at the first frames of the movie. There is a plainness that surrounds the film reminding me of documentaries that throw in some reenactments and then right back to real footage of the era the documentary is about. Still a nice tribute to 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion

Carry On.

l finally watched Carry On. I grew up watching Jason Bateman on Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family. So I wasn't convinced he could be a bad guy/killer. He nailed his role. The other actors were solid too. But his performance stood out. I hope he's cast in similar roles in the future.

I'm looking forward to checking it out soon.

I liked seeing Bateman display the intensity at times during the series Ozark. He was a family man and in way over his head. Stress with his wife & assorted people he was doing criminal business with, but it was cool to see him put his foot down at times on some "don't fuck with me ..." (knowing him and his family were targets).

The movie was great. When I watch a movie I usually cant help but pause it a few times to check my phone. Not this time. The movie drew me in and kept my attention throughout. It had an excellent mix of action and drama. I absolutely recommend this movie.

I rate it a 9 out of 10.

Yea it was pretty good entertainment! Of course over the top, but also put together pretty damn good.. i would watch it again

But it was a very good Saturday night popcorn flick

Bateman killed it.

Bets movies of the year IMO

Aliens Rumulus
Deadpool and Wolverine
Wild Robot

Couple movies I have seen on other lists that I want to see

Nasferatu
Sing Sing
Anora
Challengers ( I hear there is a gangbang scene)
Mars Express
Its Nosferatu, but if I were Nas, this would be the title of my next record.
I would definitely have some lines about striking fear in other rappers when I enter the room and turning people to zombies and fiends when they hear my lyrics. And, I would shoot the video in a dark grayish-blue color.

Nosferatu is dope. Worth the watch, even though its a bit long.

Watched "Saturday Night" on the flight back Thursday. I really enjoyed it.

Watched it just over 2 weeks ago. I thought the pacing was really good, and the actor who played Lorne Michaels did a really good job in my opinion. Only 22yo. He captured that appearance of quietly anxious / nervous really well with all the stuff he was processing before the show was launched.

Overall, I thought the casting was spot on! Brought back a lot of memories seeing those old sketches.

I've always appreciated the 70s and 80s casts. Being born in '79, my era was mostly the casts they had during the 90s when I could better appreciate comedy. So seeing the original stuff from the 70s - 80s is when I'd see highlights on TV, or those Best of SNL compilations, and in Youtube content. I was familiar with about 90% of the names mentioned in the movie.

Anora

PRAISE : Mikey Madison’s joins the list of actresses including Natasha Lyonne and Jennifer Lawrence who have given great standout performances in independent films.
The film worked for me not only because it took me on a crazy odyssey filled with believable characters, it's love letter to parts of Brooklyn but the main reason it's the sincerity of the title character Anora.
She's a stripper who does the stripper hustle to a T. She meets the running from responsibility ,extravagant spending Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn) and there's seemingly a romantic connection but among other things Vanya is not as free as he seems. The movie definitely rests on the more than capable shoulders of Madison over and over again. Her performance wasn't a revelation to me because I watched her for years on FX's
Better Things but she's definitely outstanding in her portrayal of Anora. I believed in what she wanted, needed and believed in right to the end. Pretty Woman comparisons can be made but Anora is its own thing especially when it comes to transactional trysts possibly becoming more and the raw hard truths about people and life. I spoke of the other performances and Eydelshteyn made me think of people ive crossed paths with that had the same im here to party personality. As Vanya’s Armenian handler Toros ,Karren Karagulian, is great as he airs his frustrations with Vanya and the world. As the henchmen, Garnick (Vache Tovmasyan) and Igor (Yura Borisov) they do well as they lean into physical comedy and a caring vibe is definitely put out by the latter.Writer and Director Sean Baker has shaped an interesting, heartfelt drama with humor around it's edges.
One of the best movies of 2024

PROBLEMS: A couple of minor things.

I watched it yesterday ... really good, as expected!

Definitely a star-making performance for Madison. I thought the actor who played "Toros" did a great job as well. I could see him landing some supporting actor nominations for his work amongst next year's award circuit.

My favorite stretch of the movie was from approx' the 45 minute - 1 hr, 15 min mark. The intensity that was maintained over a handful of scenes at the house was impressive. I was sitting back just appreciating the acting / chaos.
