Praise : Putting together a sequel to a film that was very good and well liked and that's at least on the same level can be very tricky.
This sequel has the benefit of its two main characters and actors
Nick O’Brien (Gerard Butler) and the brains of the criminal operation, Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.). The two have their own charisma but put them together and its fun, intense and with all the right amounts of swagger to watch unfold. This time around O'Brien wants in Wilson's next beyond big heist. The additions to the cast and heist crew are Jovanna (Evin Ahmad) Salvatore Esposito as Slavko and Orli Shuka all do well here. There's a lot from them to build up enough tension, the question of who can be trusted is included i couldn't resist becoming attached to their characters. Writer and Director : Christian Gudegast gives the audience just enough detail about the major heist. Sure you see some planning and diagrams but there's nothing like the suspense and tension of watching it play out on screen.I actually let out a wow that was cool during a specific part of the heist. Gudegast also throws in a couple of side complications that makes things more interesting and involving. There are several fun action sequences and one was really great to see on the big screen.

PROBLEMS: Some things were to easily resolved.I had a problem with certain parts of the ending. Anyone that saw the first trailer will know how one ultra predictable story thread will play out. The thought of well maybe it's going to go this way never entered my mind, because even though one scene was telling way into the film as soon as a couple of characters said a few words to each other at the beginning of the film i knew what was going down. That kind of watered down some of the movie for me but this is still a worthy sequel.

Speaking of Eisenberg ... time flies ... this debuted over 25 years ago ...

I'm probably gonna rewatch this series (only aired for 1 season) at some point. Enjoyed it back in the late-90s and caught the bulk of the season.

Get Real is an American teen comedy-drama television series that aired on the Fox Network and ran from September 1999 to April 2000. It follows the fictional Green family headed by parents Mitch and Mary and consisting of three teenagers – Meghan, Cameron, and Kenny. It stars Eric Christian Olsen, Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Debrah Farentino, and Jon Tenney.[1] The series marked both Hathaway and Eisenberg's onscreen debuts.[2] Hathaway and Olsen portrayed the older siblings to Eisenberg's central character.

No. of episodes22 (2 unaired)

I never heard of this. Not shocked to see it aired on Fox. That was the time period when Fox was giving any show a greenlight for a season or two with little to no promotion. Then quickly canceling the show.

I was actually planning to rewatch the Social Network this weekend

I'm rooting for O'Shea.
He's a good actor and a huge wrestling fan. He actually seems like a cool/chill dude.

I could easily see him having a account here

Social Network would be a good rewatch. Saw that one with free tix opening weekend.

Regarding the major networks ... yeah ... they are spotty with their promotion, yet quick to can series left and right. Pretty cool to see Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway go on to legit movie careers years later. Good longevity for them both already (more than half their lives each).

Playa - interesting side note. Romany Malco was previously married to the sister of a friend of mine from the 1990s.

It appears as though she's currently married to Geroy Simon. He's a great former player for the B.C. Lions of the CFL ...

In 2008, he married former ice skater Taryn Dakha, the stunt/body double for Jessica Alba. They met in 2007 on the set of the 2008 film The Love Guru.[6]

2023

5/10

I had been sitting on this film on Hulu since late 2023 and finally got around to watching it at home tonight.

The film is a Sci-Fi/Rom-Com, but doesn’t play out like the standard Rom-Com films you are familiar with.

It takes place in the later part of the 21st century in what looks like NYC. Live Child Births have declined and no reason is actually given.

Technology has been highly advanced and the Human/AI Singularity has already happened. The film does a good job depicting how technology has gained dominance over human everyday life.

The film also takes on climate change without focusing on it directly, but highlights it with various characters actions depicting on how the environment is affecting them. A number of other issues dealing with society, culture and the economy are brought up throughout the film.

For the InCells, there is dialogue bringing up, that Men are no longer needed to produce babies. And that Women could progress easily with their careers using the birth pod method.

For the Militants, Chiwetel and Emilia are in a IR marriage. Only PDA is shown.

For the Thirsty, Emilia Clark looks like crap.

For the Pervs, there are a couple of scenes showing Emilia in a prosthetic pregnancy, along with being topless. Other actress’ are shown being pregnant.

If you looking for a decent Sci-Fi flick to watch with your girl that you both can enjoy, add this in your viewing list.

Synopsis

In the not-so-distant future, amid a society madly in love with technology, tech giant Pegazus offers couples the opportunity to share their pregnancies via detachable artificial wombs or pods. So begins Rachel and Alvy's wild ride to parenthood in this brave new world.

The movie and her performance have been getting plenty of early Oscar buzz in recent months ... I really liked the director's work with the movies The Florida Project and Red Rocket from 2017 & 2021 respectively.

Anora is a 2024 American romantic comedy drama film written, directed, and edited by Sean Baker. It follows the beleaguered marriage between Brooklyn stripper Anora (Mikey Madison) and son of a Russian oligarch Ivan Zakharov (Mark Eydelshteyn), and features a supporting cast of Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Aleksei Serebryakov.

Anora premiered on May 21, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or. It was released theatrically on October 18, 2024, by Neon. The film received critical acclaim and has grossed $17.2 million worldwide, becoming Baker’s highest grossing film.

This was a decent movie but overrated, I think Hollywood loves these new young actresses in sexual roles which is why it got all the Oscar nods.

Glad you liked it, Benny

The 2nd act of the movie sure gets frantic and chaotic, huh?

As for Red Rocket - let me know what you think. Really good performance from Simon Rex. He plays the likeable douchebag role well, and you feel bad while watching and getting a kick out of his interactions, haha. “I got my ass kicked!!”

I appreciated that she - lead is a regular bitch. Basic. Stupid. Pretty much unattractive lol. But in those club lights and with that hey baby you wanna go out energy it was not hard to see the appeal the charisma and capacity to connect with johns. It felt like a flick for and/or at least reflective of the world of fantasy that we live in right now today. And how global the fuckery is. Actress is one of the few in last five or so years I genuinely DISLIKE - Tarantino flick. Scream 5 yuck lol so I was surprised she actually worked. Props like a mf to filmmaker who I noticed CAST the film himself as well which is some very unique shit especially given the randos with likely no experience he seems to always work with this one bein no exception. The shit he did in LA around trans hoes was not acceptable lmbao.

7/10

I been sitting on this film for a couple of years and finally got around to watching it last night at home on tubi.

This is one of those sleeper classic films that you stumble onto, which happened with me.

The film gives a good depiction of early 1972 Los Angeles, CA. Long before former LAPD Chief Daryl Gates, the Crack epidemic and street gangs took the city over in the 1980s.

It basically focuses around 3 new LAPD recruits starting out in the force. It’s interesting hearing about the pay/benefits they got back then and the personal lifestyle police officers had back then. Along with showing how cops back then handling street crime in a somewhat professional way unlike today. You also see how cops react when shooting unarmed men with emotion unlike cops today.

One thing you will quickly notice with the film is it has an All-Star cast of well known actors from the 70s/80s from TV/films of the era. See if you can spot “Louise Jefferson”, when you do you will bust out laughing. HaHa!!!

With this film, you can see where classic cop shows like “Hill Street Blues” and “NYPD” got their inspiration.

For the Militants, there is IR between a WM/BW. Only PDA is shown.

Quincy Jones did the soundtrack.

Overall, it’s a decent film depicting the stress of the job on the officers professional and private lives.

Synopsis

For rookie cop Roy Fehler's (Stacy Keach) first assignment, he's paired up with veteran Andy Kilvinski (George C. Scott) to work the streets of East Los Angeles. It's a tough job in a tough neighborhood, but, despite getting shot after only a short time on the force, Roy comes to love it. He gradually begins to put police work before all else, and, when his marriage fails as a result, Roy soldiers on unfazed, taking solace in a new relationship with a nurse (Rosalind Cash).

The Front Room
2024

4/10

I watched this flick last night at home on MAX.

It’s listed as a horror/thriller, but plays out more like a psychological thriller.

The premise has been done before, nothing new with the plot. There isn’t anything for scares in the film.

There is a lot of odd and weird imagery thru-out the film, mainly around the Mother In-Law. There are some Christian references thru-out the film.

The main thing that was interesting was while watching it, the ending came up predictable, but the film actually ended differently than what I expected.

The film does have an ending, but throughout the film, there were scenes and dialogue that could extend it out as a franchise with multiple films.

If you are into way out weird shit, this film is for you.

For the Militants, Brandy is in a IR marriage with a WM. There is a sex scene showing them in a dark room and we see their silhouette.

For the Pervs, there are a couple of scenes showing Brandy in her pregnant prosthetic.

Also, don’t watch this film while eating. There is a lot of visuals of urination/defecation around the Motther In-Law.

Synopsis

Everything goes to hell for newly pregnant Belinda after her mother-in-law moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere.

I've listened to some of the interviews with Sean Baker and lead star Mikey Madison. They noted it was a collaborative project. Him noticing her prior work and developing this role for her. Madison meeting up with Baker and his wife Samantha Quan who is also a producer on many of his projects. They met up over coffee or lunch and went from there. Madison visiting the club(s) and learning what it would take to create her character. Some of the stuff with the language and communication. And hearing her in interviews, she is really feminine and quiet, so I appreciated her acting in the movie and her ramping up the energy. Especially those scenes at the house after the 45-minute mark. Wow. She can act.

I plan on checking out the following series at some point. It's where she got her big break start as one of the daughters, and I've heard good reviews over the years. It used to be available on my provider's On Demand section. Not there now, but noticed it's available in full on the free streaming platform, CBC Gem.
