This will last forever. It's best to mention entire hip hop albums dedicated to love:
Little Shawn
LL Cool J
Heavy D

Oolong, we're going there? Aight. It ain't exactly hip hop, but I gotta do this for the Go Go fam.
I need a Old Man Radio True Hip Hop Stories with Uncle Chuck...
How was I Need Love received in the music/rap community when it was first released?
And is it MORE difficult to write produce a hip hop LOVE song then lets say a dance record?
Gotta post this one. Hey, love is love!:
When "I Need Love" came out, the dudes weren't feeling it. Then we noticed the chicks were....IN A BIG Way, so we jumped on board! Hey, man, gotta go where the birds go! I like the way Heavy D (RIP) did "Didn't You Know". He did it like he was writing a letter. The one thing I hated about hip hop love songs, was that EVERYBODY did that fuckin' soft voice! I hated that!
Mary J. on the hook!
Confession: When this came on, it wasn't a chick at the club that could keep up with me on the floor. The 'Chuck had dance moves for y'all stankin' asses!
So DAMN Ja Rule and his raspy ass was a pioneer then!!!
But I always wondered if it was DIFFICULT to write or if its all the same?
Like is it HARDER to write a rap song with a positive message?
Is it harder to NOT curse on a record?
Can you perform the love song on the road or will the male fans(and some female fans) not want to hear that at the club?
Oolong, we're going there? Aight. It ain't exactly hip hop, but I gotta do this for the Go Go fam.
To me, it was easier to write a song without curse words. For Shy D and Brother Marquis, it was harder. Fam, if you have a decent love song on on your album, YOU DO IT!!! The ho's LOVES them shits! In concert, Shy D couldn't sing, so I had to sing the hooks on his, and TJ Swan sang for Shan. We got more ass that a toilet seat on tour!
What would Ja Rule think?
See when I tell the kids they think I'm an Angry Old Man but rap groups who DID NOT curse got LOVED by the WHOLE damn family...I'm not saying they can't be lil nasty and stuff but the harmony and sing along factor was HIGHER in old school hip hop.
Singing that song all week.
And because there was no internet yo would play the song over and over...
TJ Swan was the MAN I loved that stuff...
I miss rap crews and fully developed hooks and routines.
It's between THESE FIVE, fa sho...really the first three.you know...
in this thread Ja Rule may actually make the top 5
If we going Pac........I go with this
The Pharcyde - Passin' Me By
I disagree a little...this is a heartache song almost a damn country song about unrequited love and heartbreak and being young and in love.
Is it REALLY a LOVE song?
Every chick I've ever played this for loved it...
Another dope one..
Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest
