Warriors scored just three points over the final five and a half minutes in the fourth quarter (that's when the box and 1 was deployed). Complaining about a middle school defense causing you a problem is like complaining about being fouled because you can't shoot free throws.
We won't start the game with it, but I give him credit for trying to do something to shake things up because prior to that, the Raptors made up no ground in the 4th.
I actually thought it was a smart move by Nurse. Klay was out. KD was out. The box and 1 was implemented as an attempt to eliminate the outside shooting... take away Curry's comfort zone and make the team beat you another way. That shit almost worked had Iggy not have hit that big shot.
I didn't really attribute that lack of scoring due to the box and one though. After Klay went down, scoring was going to be limited regardless, which is why I thought it wasn't necessary in the first place.
Fleet was going just fine. Plus the Raptors started attacking the basket more instead of settling for outside jumpers like they were earlier.

Could be confusing correlation with causation but the scoring stopped immediately after the box and 1 was implemented. I mean that literally. The raptors hadn't made up any scoring ground until that moment. And they were still scoring at the same clip when Klay went down.
It probably wouldn't work again, but something like that can completely throw an offense off considering no one has probably played against once since high school..if even then.
Because he was the only pure shooter left. Had he and Klay been out, the coach would have done the same shit to KD, but the problem is that KD can play from the post so it's a bit more difficult to implement it and have it work with a post player. It wasn't like Curry was lighting them up at that point.. the coach just did some desperation shit to spark his team defensively and it almost worked.

It wasn't because "they could do nothing to stop him from controlling the game. Curry wasn't doing shit. They did it to completely disrupt the offense and force them to up the tempo...which they needed in order to catch up because they needed more possessions.
Your argument only makes sense if Curry was "controlling" the game. He neither scored or assisted on any points up until that point or after in the 4th.
He hadn't scored (or had an assist) in the previous 7 minutes in the 4th quarter before they implemented it. He was already defended and extremely well. It was less about Curry and more about completely fucking up the offensive flow. You're not going to run a box and 1 and put the man coverage player on fucking Cousins
Locking out the perimeter allows you to play the 2 up and 2 down spacing the box and one requires. Curry wasn't doing shit but you're not going to give the nigga wide open square up threes in a zone.
They would have done it to Klay had he been left... or KD if he was the last man standing. Zones don't work well with pure shooters but if there is one left, you can run the box and 1... if Curry aint doing shit, you're not going to give him wide open looks in a zone.
