This shit is crazy...
Why?
Lebron didn't go to all these Finals in a row until he teamed up with two other All-Stars.
Now that Durant did the same, he's leading his band of All-Stars and mowing over the competition, too. He's currently mowing over Lebron.
Durant has been a premier player for years.
He is not JUST a scorer. He can definitely contribute in other areas, and is arguably one of the most unique, and dangerous scorers to ever play the game. He is ALSO efficient.
Lebron is a more versatile defender, sure.
But, at the end of the game, the object of the game is to outscore your opponent, and Durant can score in more ways than Lebron James, and is just as efficient, even though his primary means of scoring is attacking the rim.
Nobody saying Lebron is lame, but Durant is great in a different way.
I don't think you can drop Lebron James in any era and he does the EXACT same thing. All that driving to the basket would have been problematic for him when you got touched up going to the rim, and there were ELITE shot blockers. At one point, they said dude average shot length was 2.9 feet. Furthermore, Lebron James is playing in a small ball era. He's often the biggest guy on the floor, and when he gets to the rim, there is usually nobody noteworthy their to contest his shot.
Durant would be what he is in any era. A great shooter at that HEIGHT? There is no way to guard that...
...AND he can put the ball on the floor.
Why am I focusing on scoring?
Look at Lebron's teammates. It don't matter how well you can pass if your teammates can't convert. Defense is great, but you can't defend everybody at once. Rebounding is great, but you have to convert them into point.
It ALWAYS comes back to scoring.
...and I feel I can count on Durant at the end of games, and is more reliable at the FT line.
I mean, I've always felt Lebron was a tad overhyped. Dude has played under perfect conditions in the east i.e. weak opponent; multiple All-Stars on roster aside from himself - and his approach to scoring is PERFECT for this era, but less so in previous eras.
