Kyrie Irving unable to practice with Nets in Brooklyn due to New York's COVID-19 vaccination protocols

Kyrie Irving did not practice with the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn on Tuesday as the point guard is unable to practice or play in New York under the city's COVID-19 vaccination protocols.

After practicing with the team last week at training camp in San Diego, Irving did not attend the team's first practice back in Brooklyn. Players in the New York market must have at least one vaccination shot to practice or play in New York.

"No further update," Nets coach Steve Nash told reporters after practice about Irving's status for home practices and games. "We support him. We are here for him. Things change. When there's a resolution, we're here for him."

The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association agreed to a reduction in pay of 1/91.6 of a player's salary for each game an unvaccinated player misses because of local COVID-19 vaccine mandates, ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Bobby Marks reported. The Nets play their next preseason game Friday against Milwaukee in Brooklyn.
"I'm not really worried about anything," Nash said when asked about not having his starting point guard for practice in Brooklyn. "We're just trying to work every day. We came in today and had a great practice and we'll do the same tomorrow, and that's kind of where I leave it."
Nash was asked whether there has been any consideration of moving the team's practices outside of New York City to have Irving be able to participate.

"No, this is our home, this is where we're going to practice and we have almost a whole group," Nash said. "So that's a positive, and we're just working at getting better every day and focusing on the things we can control."

Irving -- who would lose roughly $380,000 per game if he is unable to participate in home games -- was not able to attend the team's media day in Brooklyn on Sept. 27. But he did talk to reporters remotely and asked for privacy regarding his decision.

"I know that I'll be there every day no matter what and just be present for my teammates as one of the leaders on the team and be there for my growing tribe off the court," Irving said during that media day remote session. "I know the focus has to be at an all-time high, no distractions. This is the last thing I wanted to create, was more distractions and more hoopla and more drama around this. I'm doing my best to maintain this with good intentions and a good heart."

True, but Giannis cooks damn near all centers. That shouldn't be the only indicator to not pay him, He made It to the finals, he's young and can improve.
MPJ just got max money from Denver, his offense completely relies on Jokic. No chance in hell Ayton is not getting Max.

Thats just the market nowadays especially with that 75 Billion Dollar TV Contract coming up

So they extend & over pay for an aging CP3 with the quickness but don't want to lock up their young star center smh

CP’s play and leadership got them to the Finals…

With the help of a couple of nicely timed injuries.

And Ayton’s play got them nowhere.

14.points and 10.5 rebounds isn’t worth a max contract.

If he gets mad then the current labor agreement needs to be torn up and a strike needs to happen.

If he gets 35-40 million a year, then Steph and Lebron need to be paid 100 million a year.

Chris Paul who singlehandedly was responsible for getting them to the finals?

Did you see Ayton play that series?

Uh...most teams are extending their young stars without them doing much of anything so I can understand why Ayton is like, "Wait a minute..."

I definitely understand why Ayton feels like that, but as a fan. He’s not worth max money.

But most of them aren’t so what do I know? :dunno:

That was not a foul, Steph jumped forward into him in an unnatural shooting motion to draw a foul.
I disagree, yes he did jump into him but the defender was also jumping slanted. The defender didn't jump straight up and down. So that'd a foul, now if the defender jump straight up and down then that's a different story...

On second watch, it was a foul on the defender BUT the reason why these won't get called is because the offensive player is going to try to "sell" it by leaning in. These players are going to have to unlearn that. Had Curry not leaned in, the foul gets called because the defender had no choice but to bump into him on his way down. My opinion.
Agreed...

The defender doesn’t and shouldn’t have to jump straight up and down to not have a call on them.

Steph damn near cannonballed into the man’s chest and you think it was a foul on the defender?

The defender landed on the 3 point line. Steph did a step-back and was good 3 feet behind the 3 point line when he landed.

When he landed from jumping forward, he landed on the defender who was still on the 3 point line.

NBA refs referee based off entertainment and I understand that there’s differences. But if you try that same move anywhere other than the NBA, I guarantee the defender will tell you, “You jumped into me”.

If Steph didn’t lean in the defender wouldn’t have touched him.

Look at where the defender landed and look where Steph was when he initially landed. The defender wasn’t close enough to challenge the shot and he definitely wasn’t close enough to foul him.

Look at it in slow motion.

Ayton was a major reason they got to finals. He didn't play well in the finals against Giannis which was a bad match up for him but let's not act like he didn't have a great playoff run.

If niggas like Gobert who played like shit in the playoffs can get max type contract, Aytons agent has all the right to ask for the max for his client.

As a basketball fan I agree that he doesn't deserve the max (only a few players do imo) but on the business side the Suns should pay dude because another team will.
