Will lacked a key element turning down this role.............

In the end, he had to admit he probably would have messed up the Matrix.

Maybe he did have vision to know the outcome.

It's funny to think that the Wachowski Sisters were once dudebros.

And Will probably missed an opportunity by not doing Matrix. It would've been a fitting way to end his 90s phase but, then again, it prolly would've been ass too.

1, Matrix was a phenomenon. It was revolutionary and caught the world and movie industry by storm...... outside of the W sisters and their closest producer, I doubted anyone would have predicted how much that film would shift the culture. So Will's people were all probably like, nah man.... plus Johnny Mnumonic came out a few years earlier, and while not that similar it was still a forward thinking sci-fi tech movie, and did performed terribly...

2, not sure who his co-star would've been, even for Will Smith especially in the 90s as a love interest he couldn't be paired with a whole white woman and the studio wouldn't be able to "sell" it internationally a black woman.......eeeehh

3, Wild Wild West was a reboot of a popular TV series..... .Will probably knew the series and watched it as a kid, nostalgia effect probably helped seal that deal even if the script was ass.

This is from Screen Rant...imagine Janet Jackson and Will Smith in the Matrix...So You really could have had an all black cast in the matrix. Sandra Bullock would have been an interesting choice as well.

The Wachowskis were close to casting pop superstar Janet Jackson as Trinity, but she had too many scheduling conflicts to make it work. Filming took place during the same year as The Velvet Rope Tour, which was turned into an Emmy-winning HBO documentary. At one point, Warner Bros. and the Wachowskis considered casting a female Neo, and the choice would have been Sandra Bullock. Bullock was reportedly considered for Trinity as well, but the part would eventually go to Moss.

Janet is interesting, at that time she was like OJ.

My comment was moreso about most brand name black actresses of the time. In 98 were there any black actresses that transcended race?

But the pop star sister of the King of Pop did.... and pre-Super Bowl incident.....

I mean, I could see it.....

Sandra Bullock.......with Keanu, especially post Speed....... eeehhhhh the studio would love it, but I'm not sure she would have "it" like Carrie Ann

The movie itself was bigger than any individual performance. Not one actor in that movie made me think that no one else could have played that role but them. I'm not a Will Smith fan but there's nothing about him as an actor. that would make me think if Smith were in the movie it would've sucked.

She would have been too old but I think Angela Bassett transcended race at the time. Halle berry as well...that would have been a good choice as well especially considering the decision that Neo made...tell the Architect "hell yeah I'm going back for that ass" lol

I don't know man, that initial "aloofness" Neo has.... in the office building being chased and then when he first wakes up..... Keanu had that down, Will would've made different choices and played it differently.....aloof wasn't his thing.... silly/immature maybe .... I can see the movie being good, but different with Will even if everyone else was the same, they would have to play certain scenes different to bounce off of him naturally/ realistically.

Halle and Janet are only 1 yr older than Carrie-Anne

Angela Basset is 9 yrs older than Carrie-Anne
