Sue's Rendezvous ends 45 years of erotic dancing

Sue's Rendezvous owner Gaetano Gizzo said a combination of legal troubles and changing clientele led him to close while he considers his and the venue's future.

MOUNT VERNON - There's no more pole dancing at Sue's Rendezvous, the erotic nightclub that for years was one of Mount Vernon's biggest attractions.

The business at 96 Gramatan Ave. closed its doors about two weeks ago and it's unclear whether it will reopen. Owner Gaetano Gizzo said a combination of legal troubles and changing clientele led him to close while he considers his and the venue's future.

Over the decades the club was a magnet for sports and entertainment celebrities, and its reputation as a party palace got Sue's mentioned in several rap songs, including works by prominent artists Nicki Minaj, Jay Z and Notorious B.I.G.

"I've been fortunate," said Gizzo, 70, who hasn't decided if he will move the club or do something else. "A lot of celebrities have come into this club.... When the Giants won the Super Bowl, they came in here. Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, I can name hundreds of stars that came into this place."

While club enthusiasts may lament the closure, others were pleased. City Councilman Andre Wallace welcomed the news.

"This is a great victory for the city of Mount Vernon to have this establishment finally off our main corridor, where our kids have to pass every day on their way home from school," he said. "A strip club should not be the center of attraction for our city. We're better than that. This is a great step in the right direction."

Gizzo, a former longtime resident of Mount Vernon, said lawsuits were one of the reasons his club closed. One of the most recent suits was filed a year ago by Falema Bruton, who alleged that the club violated state labor laws by illegally retaining tips and improperly withholding wages. The case is still winding its way through the court.

Another issue was violence in and around the club.

In October a woman was shot outside the club after a dispute among patrons spilled into the street, according to city police. In 2014, a 20-year-old Bronx man was shot in the leg after leaving the club.

Gizzo said the incidents that occurred in and around his club were no worse than violence elsewhere.

"These days it happens in schools, in churches, everywhere," he said. "I can't take people home after they leave my club."

The nightclub was open seven days a week from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. Admission was free weekdays and $20 on weekends.

On a typical night there might be 10 to 20 women dancing at the club, whose interior featured stages with poles and a shower stall for performers.

Sue's Rendezvous' 45-year run is unusual in the nightclub business, where venues typically have much shorter lifespans. Gizzo attributed his longevity to his business practices.

"We stayed open so long by running a clean place and being fair to the customer," he said. "We never took advantage of any customers. We always tried to give away free food. We went out of our way to maintain and keep our clientele and our reputation strong."

Yeah the underground spots be cracking. But over the years as more girls come into the game, These bitches have been cutthroat. Also i got some pussy for $30-$40 for a quick nut, They start there prices high like $100, but if you stick to your price they will get desperate and drop it to $40 or even sometimes $30 for a quick fuck and suck.

sue been closed for like a few weeks..quiet as kept aces mite be next.. and heavens is closed for "renovations".. lot of clubs are on the hot seat with community boards and are in danger of getting shutdown..chicks are scattering everywhere for work cause of this..worst thing that happen to the game was the community board pretty much shutting down every club in the bx (only 3 still exist)... i predicted the game collapsing yrsss ago..it happen once they tried to make these stripjoints like clubs..once you go that route you pretty much scare off the real stripclub consumers which was grownmen with city jobs/other careers and add the wrong crowd which is the young knuckleheads with not so legal temporary money..clubs thought short term with these bottle popping nigs and don't understand most hustle money is short live u need to fuck with the shot drinkers aka that career money cause that bread is longetivity.. but in everything when things collapse there somewhere lies an opportunity.. lets juss say a nig been benefitting like a motherfucker due to all this chaos:cool::cool::money::money:

that open flyer shit will never work or happen again..to many boys trying to shut shit down.. brainfest is 1 of the things that changed my mindset and pulled me in the game.. 100 girls $20 tip in..300 dudes at least $30 a piece.. my rain man went off and was like hold on these dudes making at least 11,000 not including the bar..of course you got to pay for the spot and staff..but after all said and done u walking away with a nice 4-5 figs off of 1 nite..my mindset was like i need to get into this world

I already know you eating something nice.

If Jr's Cabaret in the Bronx is still open then there's gotta be some under the table money being passed around. That shit should've been shut down just for being so damn trash. Yeah the bitches are full nude but that's only cuz the spot doesn't have a liquor license. I went 1 time & my mind was blown at how low end it was. No DJ so they use a jukebox for the music & average at best looking broads. Only solace one can have there is the bitches are fucking if your game is right.

My formative years, my college years, (late teens to mid 20s) were spent in the ATL, back in the late 90s to the 2Gs. After cutting my teeth at that level of debauchery, strip clubs took on a certain meaning for me. Especially when dancers were in your classes, neighbors, and friends. All that being said, NY strip clubs weren't shit, them bitches were bad, but lazy. Whereas ATL bitches were bad, but WORKED for that dollar!

i kno a few who do bbw events and i kno what kind of money that bring in..it's a fetish market and anything thing fetish always means money.. i actually help promote a bbw event yrssss ago with a few bbw pornstars and it was crazy how many normal looking dudes with big pockets came out for that..motherfuckers throwing 20 dollar bills on stage and shit like it was singles..the enviroment was extra relax and calm and people was enjoying themselves.. as far as the money i would have love to tap more into that market and maybe did it once a month back than but juss didn't get to do it
