This reminds me of the great man view of history, which I reject.

Jordan never won without Pippen or without Horace Grant or Dennis Rodman. Shaq never won without Kobe or Wade, Kobe never won without Shaq or Pau, LeBron never won without Wade, Kyrie or AD and Curry never won without Draymond and Klay.
Historians and sports fans love uncomplicated stories where great men determine history or make their own history. But “the guy” would never be “the guy” without those other guys. And people who aren’t “the guy” could have been under other circumstances.
Scottie Pippen could have been THE GUY. Klay Thompson could have been THE GUY.
Dame Lillard, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing. None of them are anywhere near the top ten conversation. Can’t you imagine a top ten that is radically different than the 15 or so consensus players who are in that conversation, if events (not even injuries, just roster composition) had unfolded just a bit differently?
