Why do we value Vince Carter's opinion, he never won anything and was 1st team all NBA twice. Overrating Kobe (which is the era HE played in) helps make him look good. Also keep in mind Vince is a Tar Heel and always been a passive aggressive hater of Bron. Other more recent Tar Heels don't have that issue tho....
If you don't trend or draw engagement to the sport when you aren't playing, you really aren't a superstar. A star maybe. But a superstar transcends the sport and must be considered a draw. Alot of stars simply don't draw fan interest (see 2024 NBA Playoffs).
